My daughter has been coughing for about 2 weeks. Was seen twice at her pediatrician who said its just drainage from her cold. Well for the past 2 days she's been coughing so hard she's throwing up. It seems a lot better when she is relaxing, but as soon as she starts moving around she's going into these coughing fits. I called the doc tonight, who said bring her in to the afterhours clinic if im concerned...well i am, but she was already there twice, i dont want to bring her again, to be told the same thing...does drainage from a cold cause coughing fits like that? Would you bring your child in for a 3rd time? She has had a low grade fever for about a week.

I would definitely take her in. Mother's intuition is usually right. I took my son in 3 times for a cough and low grade (actually once it was no fever) like that and all three times it was pneumonia. They couldn't hear it very clearly but it was plain as day on an X-ray. Actually the last time he was doing that he had pneumonia and RSV and that was finally detected after going to the pediatrician, then Urgent Care next day and then finally Children's Hospital ER where they found it.

I would take her again but maybe to a different doctor. My daughter used to get sick a lot and I was going to her pediatrician and then after the 4th time I went to some one else who put her on some kind of meds to at least stop the throwing up. Also have you tried over the counter meds that might stop her from coughing. I am not sure how old she is, but of the over the counter meds treat coughing. Hope that helps

Yes, drainage can cause that, it happened to my son he's seventeen months old but there has been times where he has coughed hard like that he would gag. This is important because rather than the infection going into the lungs and causing a chest infection, it gets coughed up into the throat then swallowed. She will probably be fine, although they may prescribe something that loosens it up and makes it less phylemy.

I would bring her back. The cold should been only last week. She had that cold for two weeks and she should be really check out. Are you giving her any medicine for her cold. Since she is coughing so bad that she vomits. I would bring her back to the doctor and tell them that she had this cold for two weeks and it not going away. And that she vomiting after she coughs really bad. They should do something this time. Do you have a humidifier you can use. That could help out.

Yes, I would take her. I have a son who constantly gets sick because of allergies and asthma. He also starts to cough the same way as your child. It's because of the drainage irritating her throat. Is she taking any meds? My child was always put on cough meds and a nostril spray. I would take her back and get a better solution.

I understand your concern, you don't want to seem a pest by bringing her every time she is not feeling well, but if you feel like some thing is wrong don't ever hesitate to take your child to see the doctor.
Some times, it is better to go in and feel silly after wards if there's nothing wrong than to wait and risk the chance that there is some thing wrong and have to feel bad about it later.
When it comes to your child trust your instinct, you can't go wrong with that.

You haven't stated her age. Regardless of her age, I would be taking her back to the doctor. Throwing up with a low grade fever doesn't sound good. I've got two toddlers & at times it feels like I'm at the doctors every other week.
Trust your intuition, if you're concerned then it's better to get it checked out-again!

good luck

Take her to the doc. The symptoms have changed, so he'll need to re-evaluate the diagnosis. You don't want this developing into something worse, like pneumonia. The doc already said bring her in. Do it!

Ma'am, if your daughter is coughing so hard she is throwing up you should take her to the doctor, deadly dieseases disguise themselves as colds, plus i am a mild asthmatic and i don't cough that hard. You should.

I guess it could but can't they do something about the drainage? I'd bring her in and be insistent that they either confirm their diagnosis or do something about it. Moms always know when something isn't right. Trust your instincts.
