Fermentation. It is when respiration takes place in the absence of oxygen, alcohol is a waste product (except in animals where the waste product is lactic acid).

A classic method of creating alcohol (thanks to my boy scout training) is to fill a jar with water, dump some raisins in (for sugar and yeast) and let it sit somewhere out of the sun for a longish while (we used to bury ours). The result is a particularly horrible concoction that goes by the name of "Raisin Jack" or "Puke Juice". I would label it definitely not for human consumption, due to the many potentially nasty by-products you might find in the mix, but it should contain some significant proportion of alcohol, depending on how long you let it sit. The run-off from silage also generally has some alcoholic content, due to the fermentation in the corn pile.
