You mean the rifle (chambering) with the fastest muzzle velocity? That's probably the .220 Swift, at just over 4000 fps. The .17 Remington might be a little faster; it's close.

There are several wildcats that are faster. The fastest of those I've ever heard of was the .22-.378, which was the giant .378 Weatherby necked down to .22, with a muzzle velocity of something like 6600 fps.

There are several factory loads that approach or surpass the 4,000 fps level. The new .204 Ruger looks to be the speed champ with a published velocity of 4,225 fps fora 32-grain loading. The .30-'06 Accelerator load from Remington launched a 55 grain .22 calibere saboted slug at a published velocity of 4080 fps. And the .17 Remington, for a long time the fastest cartrige on the market, pushes a 25 grain bullet at 4040 fps.

In wildcats, I found only one that claims greater than 4000 fps velocity. The .14-.222, a wildcat based on the .222 Remington case, fires an 11.4 grain bullet at 4465 fps.

Thanks for giving me an excuse to thumb through Cartridges of the World.

As for the velocity, there are three that come to mind as the fastest. A .204, a .220 Swift and that new .17 Remington Fireball. They all are advertised at or over 4000 FPS.

A little clarification here would help. Do you mean muzzle velocity of the bullet? Do you mean speed of production? Fastest to break? If you drop them from an airplane, which one hits the ground first?

As others have already said. What is your definition of FAST, and what are you referring to exactly?
