a trained technician could do this job in about 8 to 10 hours, i would not reccomend atemping to do this unless you have done one before and have a torque wrench and pipe sealant for the bolts among other small thing which you need to do the job right, i would also reccomend doing both gaskets at the same time any old gm man should be able to do this for around a thousand dollars good luck

Not a job for an amateur. Being that you have no experience, how do you know it needs a head gasket ?? Tell us some troubles that make you think so. I would bet some "mekanik" told you. Did you run a compression test ? Very unusual to have so many head gasket problems on this forum. Most turn out not to be.

Your friend has a big problem... With the right tools and a little luck, you might get it done in a day if you are a fair mechanic. While the heads are off, it would be a good idea to have them checked for cracks and warpage.

Did you replace the timing belt? When our timing belt went on our car it was like the car wouldn't turn over we thought it was the spark plugs, when we were driving the timing belt went and it was like the car was out of gas. Anyways I'd check the timing belt, but I'd take it to a car shop, or post an ad on Craigslist looking for a mechanic.
