I know this is going to sound stupid, and I don't know if I have any diseases or anything but your help is appreciated. I am a freshman and I hate my voice. I don't have gay voice but for some reason I can't talk to people because I am embaresed about my voice or I think I won't be able to socialize with them. Also I have to touch things a certain amount of times (I need to count in my head) and if I don't do this I feel like something bad is going to happen to me like I won't be able to talk to my friends or I wont know how to make people laugh. I try to fight it but it haunts me everyday, lowering my self-esteem the point of thoughts of suicide. If anyone knows whats wrong with me or has any help, it's appreciated. Thanks for reading

You don't sound stupid. I click my teeth together between the lines on the highway. I also have to make sure that everything in my personal area is lined up in 90-degree angles or are evenly spaced. Even if it is not mine, I have to touch it, have to move it so it is "straight". I am compelled. It is called obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many people have it - and it has many different degrees. I can't really describe how I would feel if I didn't do those things; I can't not do it. But I know how you feel. I had a really rough go of it from 15 to 22, or so. Suicide attempts and all. I am 26 now - and I can tell you it's better, not perfect, but better. I know how to laugh at myself and be comfortable with me (and all of my weird little things). Here's what I figured out. Everyone is crazy out of their damn minds. The difference between the people that function and the ones that can't is their ability to deal with their "stuff". I know my issues and I address them everyday. But then it's done, and I can move my mind to other things. Nothing is wrong with you - other than you are just like everyone else, in your own special way. Good luck.

I would most definately not believe you have a disease just because someone on the internet says you do. No need to get wrapped up in something that might not even be true. You are going through a rough time with worry and stress. You should see a therapist to get further instructions. It is better to take the safe rout and have someone there for you that you can talk to and that can give you advice and help. Someone you can trust instead of someone maybe all the way across the Country. We don't know all the facts, and you do. Obviously you aren't going to let us know everything thats been going on (and I don't blame you) because 1) it would take forever to type out and 2) you shouldn't feel like you have to let your guard down to just anyone even people you don't know to get help. You need someone to be there for you to help you figure this out. It might take a while but with a therapist they can help you and will always be there for you. They can help you feel better and get better.

Vito, it doesn't sound stupid at all. In fact it sounds all too common. The fact that you realize you may need help is the biggest step you will have to take to start getting better. Go to your favorite trusted adult and tell them or show them this posting. Get better soon and start enjoying life!

It sounds to me like you are having classic symptoms of OCD(Obsesive Compulsive Disorder) as far as the counting goes, as far as your anxiety about your voice sounds like somekind of anxiety disorder. I suggest speaking to you primary physician so they can refer you to a mental health disorder. (NO YOU ARE NOT CRAZY!). There are medications that can help. If you continue to go untreated, the symptoms may worsten.
