Should I ask my doctor for a prescription? I can't sleep and I'm a nervous wreck! I have always had anxiety.

If you need this, your Dr will prescribe them.

Many cancer patients feel anxious, have sleep problems etc.

Some need medication, others use meditation, others just seem to cope.

I was automatically given a prescription for medication to help me sleep, it is still sitting in my 'memory box' of things from when I was ill, as I was lucky enough not to need it.

My oncologist looked at me strangely when I refused a repeat prescription - but then she found it unusual I refused the anti-nausea drugs as well!

I am a non smoker who has lung cancer and I was quite surprised when I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer 18 months ago - I had some sleepless nights so I have a prescription of Ambien to help me sleep when necessary and I also take Celexa for depression. Please don't wait - ask your doctor for a prescription it will make a big difference. I really think it is quite normal for us as cancer patients to take such medications - I know a lot of other lung cancer survivors I chat with also take anti depressant. ACOR.org is an excellent resource for cancer info just look up your particular cancer type and check out the listserve. I was given 12-18 months and I am on 18 months now and I don't think I am going anywhere soon at least not from lung cancer! Hang in there and keep fighting!

oh yeah. Discuss an anti depressant, and anti anxiety, a sleep aid, and your team of docs should have a psych. These are things you need. It will help you relax and allow your body to heal a lil better.

With the health condition that you have I would think that your doctor would be more than willing to give you something for the anxiety. I take something occasionally and I am not sick but it takes the anxiety away. Talk to your doctor. I think he will be willing to give you something. Good luck....
