is it a bad thing if your flutes cork is coming out really easily (like you pull it and it slides out like pulling out the headjoint) my flute is an almost 4 year old gemeinhardt. or does it mean its just getting old.

For starters, 4 years is not at all old. :) I've got a Gemmy that I no longer play that was made in 1976, so it dates me by a couple of years. Plus, there are many flutes that date back a hundred years or so.

As for the headjoint cork, If it comes out easily, then it's time to replace it. Not only can you not place the instrument without one, but the intonation will be absolutely horrendous. Good thing is that they're really cheap to replace...about $10 or so. It is not a bad idea to occassionally check the headjoint cork position, just to make sure that everything is okay.

Hope this helps

The music is only in the flute player. Only a flute player can get music out of a flute. This can be tested so is a very strong hypothesis.

It might just need to be replaced which shouldnt cost much. Have your band director look at it. Being old shouldnt really have much to do with it but how well you keep it clean and take care of it can and how often you have to move it to retune it. It coming out real easy can cause you to be really out of tune. I have a flute that I've had for about 15 years now. It's still in great condition. I have had to have some pads replaced a few times and the cork replaced just once. Good luck hun :)

if the flute cork comes out, it will make the pitch different, and it won't sound right. so i would say it is a bad thing.

it's gonna change the pitch of your flute. Mine did the same thing. All you need to do is take it down to a music shop and have them look at it.

You definitely need to get new cork and possibly pads too

They simply grow old over time, and need to be replaced

You can go to a store like quinlind and fabish to fix this

yeah get ur director to look at it.. and he or she can posibbly tell you where to go to fix it or maybe ur school has an instrument repair person. but i doubt you will have to replace the flute entirely.

Don't worry it can be fixed easily.

But it is important that you get it fixed as soon as possible. Because if you don't, it could get worse.
