In Greek, Zeus is the supreme ruler. He was Lord of the Sky, the Rain-god and the Cloud-gatherer, who wielded the awful thunder-bolt. The Greeks worshipped him because rain was an important necessity for agriculture, but feared his random lightning strikes.
The Romans had the same god except he was called Jupiter
In Norse the god is Thor. Thor controls the sky, thunder and lightning.
The Japanese has a god whose name is Susanowo. This is a spiteful storm god of Shinto belief. He was God of tempest. Instead of looking after the oceans, Susanowo just hung around in heaven and on earth, causing trouble wherever he went. He uprooted trees, destroyed rice paddies, and knocked down buildings. Some believe he and his powerful storms are still causing mischief on earth.
The Egyptian god is Set also known as Seth. He is lord of the desert and god of storms, confusion, and destruction.

I'm guessing you're thinking of Zeus or Jupiter although there were other lightning gods.
Zeus was borne from the Titans; Kronos and Rhea. He is a married man to his sister Hera, although he is often known to have many other goddess and mortal lovers. He had 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Hera (mentioned above), Hestia, Demeter, Hades, and Poseidon.
His main weapon was the thunder bolt fashioned by the 3 cyclops.
His bird is the eagle.
His strengths: He was very strong, wise, charming, persuasive.
weaknesses: He is constantly getting in trouble over his promiscuous affairs.
His favorite tree was the oak, however the olive tree was also sacred to him.
He ruled the gods of Olympia. And of course, had domain over all the world.
His birth was ot unusual for a god, but he was born in Crete, hidden from his father who wanted to eat him as he had eaten his 5 older siblings. So Rhea, after hiding zeus, ave a rock wraped in cloth to Kronos who immediately ate it.
He had many children from both Hera, other goddesses and from mortal women whom he consorted with. Too many to name but they included names such as Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite and and Apollo.
