I think that it would depend a lot on where you live and whether or not you're covered by insurance. In NY depending on whether you have insurance or private coverage it can be from about 45 an hour to 150 an hour. It would also depend on the degree that your therapist had. A psychiatric social worker won't make as much money as either a psychologist or as a psychiatrist. The first thing that you need to do is to make an appointment with either a hospital with a mental health clinic that accepts your insurance or a clinic that accepts your insurance. Talk to someone and be completely up front with them so that they can give you a true diagnoses so that you know with out guessing what you're dealing with.
You will find some of the best and most experienced therapist with a hospital that's affiliated with a medical school. IF you live in or around NYC I would suggest several places, Payne Whitney Psychiatric facility At New York/ Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center 68th st, Manhattan. They are the hospital for Cornell Medical School one of the best in the Country. NYU Hospital on 34st Manhattan they are the hospital for New York University Medical school also one of the best. Mount Sinai School of Medicine I'm not sure where they are in Manhattan but they are good. and Last but not Least Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Hyde Park Nassau. They are affiliate with both NY hospital and Mount Sinai.

Here are some sites there is a 12 step group called Emotions Anonymous. Be careful with books because we all need guides. Be honest and open with your therapist. You are actually the person who will decide how much growth you get in therapy. It doesn't have to be eventually it can be sooner than you think.
