Because they think girls can't fend for themselves. WHICH WE CAN!
And parents who think bad things don't happen to boys are ignorant! Boys get kidnapped and raped and murdered and stuff all the time!

you know that about every single parent in the entire world. Crap must of been some poll you took to come up with this.
I don't believe parents care or love daughters more or less than there sons. They are I think possibly more "protective" of there daughters due to the fact that they are female and can become pregnant. Even though those sons of those parents are the ones that can possibly inpregnate them it still doesn't have the same significance.
That's what I believe and I'm stickin to it!!!

I think that some people have the perception that their parents care more about their daughters because girls are usually more openly emotional. They tend to give their hearts easily and of course it is the girl who can come home pregnant. Girls will usually keep an allegiance to their parents even after they get married, boys are less likely to do this. Despite advances in equality for women, it is still a mans world. We get paid less and are excluded from some high roller positions simply because we are thought to be "emotional, hormonal women" . I think parents are generally more attentive to their daughters except when it comes to education. I think most parents given the choice would feel the investment in education is more advantageous to a son simply because women usually take some time to invest in their own families.

I have both a son and a daughter and I love them both the same. But I do kind of see how parents can tend to be more protective of their daughters over their sons. I guess it has to do with all the dangers out there for girls. We assume that boys can take care of themselves but girls have to be protected and guarded. It is not really true but its hard to break those stereotypes.

What makes you think this? Is it because of many parents being grossly overprotective to their daughters, but not their sons?
I wouldn't necesarily say they care about their daughters more than their sons-but they usually are much more overprotective about them. Girls are more vulnerable to rape, so it makes sense to worry more about them..
And then, there's pregnancy-yikes.
It does suck though, when you're over sheltered and stuck in the house 24/7, and your older brother is allowed to do whatever the crap he wants. I'm glad to be out of my parents little shell.

I have 3 daughters and 1 son. I love and care about them equally, but in different ways because they are all unique and individual.

I don't think that's true at all. I care for my son greatly. I do not have a daughter. When I do have a daughter I'll care for her no more or less then my son.

Not every parent plays favorites. I have 5 kids, and each one is unique and a blessing. I can't imagine not having any of them in my life and I love each one completely. I have different relationships with my 3 sons than I have with my 2 girls, but that doesn't mean I love anyone less.
If you are feeling that your parents favor your sister over you, talk to a counsellor about it. Chances are they can help you sort out your feelings.

thats not entirely true. Parents dont CARE about daughter more than sons, they are just more protective to daughters. And it varies from parent-to-parent.

Interesting, I was raised in a family where the sons were revered and the daughters (well, me) was second class and never as important. Where can I find one of those daughter-loving families to adopt? just kidding! :)

I guess because women can get pregnant and have to deal with the pregnancy symptoms, go through 9 months of pregnancy and have to go through a painful labor. Most women care for their children where as most men do not.
The woman has the bigger responsibility of raising the child as long as the man is providing financially.
