Every atheist I have talked to has said that they became one years after being born, so the suggestion is that they learned to be an atheist, not that they were born as one.

Of course children are not born atheists! A newborn is barely aware of his or her own existence, let alone the existence of any other, and certainly not of the Other. Atheism is the positive assertion that there is no God, based upon individual experience, and the evidence presented to the senses. Newborn children haven't formed very many beliefs about the world at all, and that includes about the existence of a god. However, this lack of knowledge and beliefs about the world and its objects doesn't de-facto make such children atheists. That's ludicrous. It is sloppy thinking to suggest it. Again, atheism isn't merely a lack of belief in the concept of god; it is an active disbelief in that concept.
Babies are perhaps best described as agnostic (i.e., have no knowledge) about the existence of God. Of course, they are agnostic about a great many other things, as well. As they are barely self-aware, I don't suppose they have developed the cognitive ability to actively engage the question of God's existence in any meaningful way. They certainly are in no position to assert God's non-existence, which is the defining act of the atheist.

I was born blind, and with many health problems.
Because of this, I spent most of my preschool years in darkness, and in the hospital.
My parents and other family weren't Christian, and didn't even mention God's existence to me.
But I always sensed the presence of a loving Someone, and that Someone was always there with me, comforting me in all my pain, and through all the surgeries.
Now, I didn't know the name of this Presence, but I certainly knew it was there.
So I was never an Atheist.
But this is just my own experience, and nothing more is meant here.

Yes, absolutely. People are born with no knowledge.
They can be removed from their places of birth, and no matter where they are raised, that is the language and culture they will have. Unfortunately they also run the risk of brainwashing by the sheeple.

I think people are born more as an agnostic - being an atheist requires an opinion. I think. Right?

Yes!
Just like none are born with a belief in Santa or faeries, none are born with a belief in god(s). Otherwise there wouldn't be religious teaching, would there?

All people are born "innocent" of all knowledge. They are influenced by those around them. Athieism is a dicision. A baby is not capable of making a dicision either way.

People are born without knowledge so of course, they have no belief or understanding. It is developed as you grow.

People are born babies.
They start asking questions about God at a very early age.
They have more sense than most adults.

You were a baby once. What do YOU think?
Where would a baby get the idea of "God"? A baby is too busy trying to figure out where he ends and Mom begins. And if he doesn't see something, it doesn't exist.
