I am an Evangelical Christian. One of the things we get, a fruit of the Holy Spirit, is the Word of Knowledge...we get penetrating insights, which often come to us as words. It is almost like we are picking up a thought or a prayer.
How often do you experience this?

Not everyone receives the same gifts Tony. I have been given the gift of discernment.

Very interesting question, Tony. There was a time when I asked God to make Himself real to me. I asked him to give me the word of knowledge concerning other people that I meet. In that word, I would know by looking at them if they were having some sort of problem. As I would get to know that person, I would learn (by listening to the Holy Spirit) what kind of problem it is.

It is kinda tricky to then approach the person and say, "Hey, could I talk to you? It seems to me that you have a problem that you are dealing with. Do you mind talking about it?" It's tricky because most of the time, people think they are doing a really good job at keeping it a secret that they have a problem. Only if the time is right am I able to be a listening ear and a giver of advice.

I use the verse in the book of Matthew (don't remember chapter and verse) that says that "you have not because you ask not..." So, if you want that word of Knowledge, ask for it. I have grown so much in Christ when I talk when prompted by the Holy Spirit.

I agree with Daniel. I too have been given the gift of discernment. However, I have received a word of knowledge a couple of times. Sure is awesome when it happens! It erases all doubt of God's existence!

Thanks for the question and God bless you!

EDIT for Grazie: Golly! I didn't know we were offending anyone by talking about God's gifts, dear one! I'm so sorry!!

Hasn't happened to me that often, I can think of twice. God's spoken to me in a few dreams though, the lastest was like a word of knowledge in that he told me something about a friend that she hadn't told me.

Oh dear, religious fundamentalism.

What have we done to deserve the gullible, money-grabbing rantings of people like you? Only in America, eh? Praise be to the egotist in the sky!

Hallelujah.
