Rock church in Virginia Beach is pretty big, it's sort of a sister church to mine (from 3,000 miles away). Also New Life is a big one that's popular out there. When I lived there I went to Agapae International, it was much smaller, but powerful. New Life was known for its singles group, so I'd guess they had a good youth group. There was also an intense A/G church that had a strong youth group (they were a sister church of an intense church in Colombia), unfortunately I can't remember their name. They're also not that large of a church.

There was a time when a Minister or Pastor would make a point of knowing the members of his congregation personally, would visit the sick and shut-ins and always be available for counselling or just a chat. In those days the Church was respected even by people who were not religious and churches had a good standing in the community. This is still the case in some churches in some communities but all too often nowadays churches have come to resemble businesses with the TV evangelists leading the way in gouging the gullible. As for Mega churches, well, Billy Graham showed the way with his big crusades in the 50`s & 6o`s to save people. Now with mega -churches it is an unholy alliance of sho-biz, religion and big business - I suppose God knows what they do with the money they rake in but I doubt whether much goes to worthwhile charitable purposes - more likely to build and maintain more mega- churches. They may utter the words of God but the spirit is missing.

You put mega-church and good in the same sentence. That's a problem. You probably would not be happy in a small church. They believe in doctrines and virtues more than in entertainment. They have cheap sound and lighting systems and small, amateur choirs. The seating is just benches with thin padding and no cup holders. Often there isn't even a movie, just a boring old speech. And there's no ATM or Espresso bar in the back.

There is no such thing as a good church and a good mega-church is an oxymoron.

why would you be uncomfortable in a small church? isn't it more desirable to know everybody at your church.
