its when the military delivers the news to the deceased's relatives and gives them the flag and tells them that whomever's died. anyone know?

It's a "casualty call". And it is done at the residence of the primary next of kin. That's the surviving spouse or, if the deceased was not married, the residence of the father or mother. The flag you refer to is not given to the next of kin until after final disposition of the deceased (burial or entombment) is made.

it is a casualty call but i call it respect as well. would you rather hear it over the news or from someone that serves as your loved one did first. And the flag is given at the burial not before.

Yes, casualty Notification. However they don't do the Flag. That is at the Military Funeral only.

In the Marine Corps, it's part of the Final Salute.
