For what reasons would a factory installed CD player in a car play some CDs some of the time?

suggestion... do not play pirated cd's on your factory installed head unit. they're not designed to play em so dont force it. you'll just end up with a bad head unit. i think you're better off installing a good aftermarket head unit.

It is a cheap model, and some laser alignment or something is not good.
