They've already got a great version of the bible and one of their famous forefathers came up with it; the Jefferson Bible. It's got some of what the original has but focuses mainly on Christs message without all the miracles which let's face it, are a load of codswallop.

If you want a more accurate version of the Bible, go learn Greek, Latin or Hebrew and read the transcripts for yourself! Then compare it to what we have today.
Out of all of the famous really old works (Homer, Socrates, etc), the Bible is the most complete. Meaning, we have at our fingertips an immense amount of transcripts to compare. And some of these transcripts are within 80 years of the life of Christ. I believe the closest transcript of the Homer's Ilead is 1000 years.
If we conformed the Bible to what we wanted it to say, the Christian faith would be dead and meaningless.
Do a little more research on the council of Nicea... Dig deaper than the 'Jesus Seminar'... You might be surprised at what you find.
Then go read 'The new Evidence That Demands a Verdict' by Josh McDowell. There is an answer for virtually every question you've ever had about Christianity and the Bible in there.

There have been several councils since Nicea. (Did you notice Vatican II?) The problems with councils is that they produce winners and losers, and the losers don't always go away. There would be fights over the delegations, fights over the issues and fights over the results. Besides, the US Government isn't conforming to the Constitution too well these days, so why would an assemblage of feuding prelates? Most of them don't believe in democracy anyway.

It will be folly to blend the Bible with the US Constitution. Religion and Politics is a bad mixture.

The bible and the constitution are two different things and need to be kept that way.

The word of God comes from prophets and not councils.
