I see many people on here asking about breeding their pets. Take a walk thru a shelter's "death row" one day. yep they all started out as cute adorable puppies. Next take a walk down the surgery aisle and look at all the poor guys that are so very sick, with a disease or illness that could have been prevented by a simple surgery.
Now go look in the classifieds to see how many people have reported a lost dog compared to those who found one.

Please save your dog's and many more lives by spending that money. It really is simple, your pet will live longer, and be a better pet for it. The need to have babies is a human's need not a dogs. They reproduce by instinct not desire.

The only dogs that should be bred, are purebreds and only if they can better the breed.

Want a puppy? go to a shelter and get one, that pup needs a home more than the next door neighbour needs money, that animals life depends on where you get your next dog!!

Ok I am stepping off my soap box now.

Yep there should be test to own a pet, but in all honesty anyone can pass a test. the true test lies in the ownership and the responsibility.

I agree 100%!!! Our first dog was a freebie puppy and he was a wonderful loving part of our family for 12 years until he passed away from cancer. The dog we have now is going to be 11 years old on 9-28 and we adopted him from a lady who rescues abused dogs. The county actually shut her place down because she had too many dogs and the neighbors were complaining. She just had too big of a heart for the dogs people didn't want anymore. Anyway, our dog is the most precious animal on the face of the earth. He's part Yellow Lab/Golden Retriever. He has given us so much love over the years. People really need to go into the shelters to adopt their pets. No need for expensive, pure-bred dogs. A dog that you rescue appreciates you and loves you like no other dog could. Our dog is neutered and I believe that adds years to their lives also.

Lets stop putting ALL the blame on the breeders, because it's the people buying these dogs and abandoning them that's the cause as well. If everyone kept the dogs they so selfishly purchased, there wouldn't be any dogs in the shelters...

Would there....?

Time to realize that it takes two to tango! Lets require a dog ownership education class before owning a dog... That would probably improve the problem.

I agree 100%. We have a wonderful mutt we adopted from the humaine society. She's a mix Gernam Shep/Great Dane. Would not trade her for any "pure breed" pet in the world.

We also recued a Pure Persian kitty. The shelter was a "low-budget" one somewhere in Hondo Texas, so her health was not "guarenteed" & she wasnt fixed.

We had her spayed & she is now 11yrs old.

:]

I'm with Kristin B on this one - I dream of a world where people have to pass a test to own a dog! I know, it'll never happen!
