Well, I can see there many ways of doing this and I not think any one way is wrong. It a matter of personal preference as we should be able to see each way works. Regardless of thumbs downs. I not have a cat at this time, but, when I did, I not even use a litter box. My cat would just go outside. But, I did not live in town and live more in a rural area. I will assume as many say, it best to clean out clumps or change when you feel it begin to smell and the litter no longer absorb odors.

I have 2 cats. I scoop at least once a day and change out the litter once a month, in between I keep fresh with baking powder. Use a good clumping litter.

Yes we have a cat. Thats my husbands job, lol. He does it about every 10 days or so. We scoop "big messes" in her box as often as needed, but change it about every a week and a half.
Seems like its not too often, but tis just enough because we dont "recycle" the litter. We dump the whole box & put new litter in.

We have eleven indoor cats, and use seven litter boxes. We use a good brand of clumping litter and my husband scoops three or four times a day. We completely scrub down each litter box every three months. I like the covered cat boxes, it gives them privacy and keeps the whole process out of sight. We use baking soda on top of the litter. Our home does not smell like we have cats. Believe me, if it did, one of our daughters would be sure to mention it!
For one cat, I would buy a covered litter box, a good brand of clumping litter, and clean the litterbox daily. The baking soda will keep the atmosphere in your home neutral, also.

Ideally you should scoop out the poop every day and then replace the litter every week. Here is another tip that I found is good. Before you put litter in the box always line it with waterproof lining (you can buy them or put any plastic bags in). After that I put a layer of bi carb. (this absorbs the yucky smell really well.) Then put in your litter and also sprinkle bi carb and mix with the litter.
Because it's odourless your cat doesn't smell it but it sure makes a difference to keeping the kitty poop smell away!

Yes - 2 of them. Their litter gets changed ALMOST immediately after they do their business if someone is home. It should also be checked several times a day and before you go to bed. The sooner the better it gets changed because urine could sure stink. Also, make sure you use baking soda at the bottom of pan then put littler on top of it. When you clean up and wet spot, best to sprinkle a little baking soda over it instead of pushing the litter on top first.

I have 3 cats so I clean the litter everday. Specifically, I scoop it everday. Once every three months, I completely empty the box and clean it out then refill with fresh litter. When I had only one cat I only scooped it every 2-3 days

I only have one cat, but he's a boy, and they smell more, so I scoop at least once every couple days, and change the whole litter about once a month
As long as you are topping it up every time that you scoop, you won't need to empty the litter that often

I have 10 and they have three boxes that get scooped every other day and changed every week and a half. Use some baking soda on the bottom of the box before you put litter in and it will help with the odor control.
