It squirted out the sides of the tip of applicator, instead of the normal way. It appers that alot of the medicine got on his fur instead of on his skin. Will this treatment be effective or should I re-apply? If I should re apply should I do so right away or should I wait. I don't want to waste the medicine or overdose my dog.

I have never had a flea problem with my dog & I always give him his medicine (frontline plus) after his bath. The directions do not indicate a waiting period in regards to bathing prior or after application. Do that many people really have that much of a deficiency in reading comprehension? I am astounded!

Don't reapply the flea medicine. It is dangerous to put too much on a dog.
Since you don't have a flea problem, it should be fine.
You can buy some flea spray and spray the house and carpet if you haven't yet. This will help take care of any fleas that may come in without harming the dog. Fleas actually live in carpet, grass, etc.
Just apply the medicine next month when he is due. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yes you do need to reapply. It will not work if most of it got on his fur. But wait first!!!

You should not apply Frontline within 2 days of giving an animal a bath. This is because Frontline requires the natural oils of the skin to work - if you read the instructions, it will tell you this on them.

So, you need to wait 2 days before you can apply Frontline, but not because of the danger of overdosing - Frontline is very hard to overdose on! Any vet can tell you that. So you've wasted one pipette, but never mind. Just make sure the next one gets on his (unwashed) skin!

EDIT: Frontline Plus is only waterproof 24 hours or so after application - it can be washed off if the dog is bathed soon after, it needs a chance to move through the whole skin.

I think you are supposed to wait more like 3 days after a bath. Frontline needs the bodies natural oils to work.

YEAH, RUB it in but make sure you read the warnings first. What you just put on your dog can be very dangerous to you and HIM.
Read this!! http://www.apnm.org/publications/resources/fleachemfin.pdf

It is not rubbish. WHo cares if Frontline is in the same picture as biospot. The article is factual and it is about ALL spot on flea and tick meds. It is not about which one is better then the other, it is about how ALL of them come with risk. The info provided on all of them individually can be found on the manufacturers website and on MSDS which is available for anyone to read. MSDS = Material Safety Data Sheets.... Look up all the main ingredients and inert ingredients in any of these products on www.msds.com It's no secret other then the manufacturers are pretty certain/bank on the majority of people will never look or won't care.
I disagree with Chalice based on my own research and common sense telling me this stuff DOES get into the dogs system. If you believe that it doesn't enter the dogs system, then you are probably one of those people who thinks a medicine sold with a label stating FOR HEADACHE PAIN, will not cure a leg ache.. LOL
We don't have to be rocket scientist to figure out what goes ON skin, goes IN skin. If it doesn't go INSIDE the dog, then why does it go INSIDE US through the skin? The label clearly says not to get it on YOU and if you do, wash it off immediatley. Doesn't that strike you as odd about a drug/chemical/medicine that will go in your skin and be dangerous, but somehow this stuff knows whose/which skin it can enter and wich it can't? LOL Whatever! Don' use ANYTHING unless you HAVE to. Always a good rule of thumb in my book.

A couple days after apply Frontline you should be good to bathe your dog. If fleas keep hatching you will have more until they all die. Stay on schedule with flea/tick treatment to avoid any outbreaks.

Ideally Frontline is applied directly the skin...any liquid on the fur doesn't do any good. However, reapplying any would be risking an overdose.

If you really wanted to be safe you could just wash it all off then reapply another tube making sure it all gets on the skin. I know it's a waste of the first but it would be safer than risking an overdose. Good luck.

Won't be effective. You must wait 48 hours prior to bathing so that the oils in the skin are present and you must wait 48 hours after you apply it before giving your dog a bath.

Well... since you're not supposed to apply it until at least 24 hours post bath ( the stuff spreads via the natural oils on a dog's skin) maybe this is a good thing.

Call the vet and ask him.

Before applying it, you should ahve red the directions first.
You have to wait either 24 or 48 hours post bath to apply as after he bath the skin may be a bit dry.
call the vet and ask him what they'd do.
