Hello, I have a 5 year old daughter that used to go to pre-K last year, 3 hours a day, 5 days a week from 11 am to 2 pm, she did great!
Now that she is attending Kindergarden from 8:30-3:30 she comes home really tired, they just implemented NO NAP anymore, because of some kiddos not taking nap and playing during that time.
Now my question is at what time should I get her to bed every night so she will get up early without crying and saying that she is tired, usually she goes to bed between 8:30-9 pm
this morning she did a big tantrum saying she was tired and that she needed more sleep.
question one: should I talk at school and tell them that she needs her quiet time?
question two: how many hours are good time sleep for a 5 year old?
any other info will be really appreciated, thank you.

I have a kinde girl this year too. They have "nap" time for less than 30 minutes and only IF they don't have other stuff to do. My daughter is exhausted! It is such a big transition, physically, intellectually, and emotionally!

My daughter's bed time is 8 pm and I don't wake her until 7 am. Somedays she needs a nap after school too.

Try an earlier bedtime. Also, offer her a rest time after school, like from 3:30-4:30.

Good Luck!

A 5 year old needs 10-12 hours of sleep, so if she is only getting her nighttime sleep she needs to go to bed at least 10 hours before she has to wake up.

Of course those are just averages and you have to find what works for your child.

Can she nap for an hour after school? That might help.

My son doesn't take naps at his kinergarten class either. He goes the same hours has your child. I know they have a quiet time though for about 1/2 hour and they have to lay on their mats.
My son goes to bed about 8 or 8:30 and we get him up at 7a.m. Most children need around 8 to 10 hours of sleep at night. Good luck to you.

Yeah, at my son's kindergarten they didn't nap either. I think it depends on the child but my son really required close to 12 hours of sleep. He would go to bed by 7pm sharp and then he'd be fine in the morning. There is probably not much you can change at the school so I'd recommend making her bedtime earlier. Good luck!!

that's shocking they don't give naps anymore in kindergarden !!!! i was told that as long as a child gets anywhere from 9 to 10 hours of sleep a day that is a good amount. that can include naps, but I guess your daughter isn't getting naps huh ? well hope that info helps !! good luck !!!

she needs at least 12 hours sleep. if she is getting up around 7 to be ready, then she should be in bed by half 6, with you reading story or something. lights out at 7.

I'm 21 years old, and when I was in kindergarden I didn't have a "nap time". Although I wish I did.
