The pill was not available, unmarried women were ostracized from society, made to quit school, and there were few occupational avenues for women that would allow them to support a child alone. Abortions were illegal.
Brenda killed herself and her unborn baby.
Things are much different today and most unwanted pregnancies can be avoided. But shouldn't abortion be an option?

Abortion or not, a much better option would be not getting used by guys in the first place. Supposedly women were "empowered" during the sexual revolution, but the reality is, "playas" were.

I do not think abortion should be an option. If you are old enough to have sex then you should be old enough to know how to prevent pregnancies from happening! To many people look at abortions as a means of birth control, that is not what it is. And yes I know you are going to say, but what about the rapes that end up causing a pregnancy. Hey, I never said i had all the answers, I just don't think killing an innocent baby is an option. Also, times have changed since you were 17, women are not ostricized and the pill and condoms are very available. Having an abortion is just the easy way out of a situation that a person created for themselves through their stupidity!

abortion is an option, but should not be used as a form of birth control. due to the lack of education in this country, many woman have had multiple abortions and all that does is destroy one's body. in today's society, a woman can get free brith control and condoms just about anywhere, so there really should not be many unwanted pregnancies. but because the levels of education are so low, people are still getting pregnant and killing themselves and their babies because they do not know what options are out there

If an unmarried woman keeps her legs closed, and if a man keeps it in his pants, then no one has a problem now, do they? No, they don't. All it takes is keeping the skirt DOWN and the pants UP.

Killing babies because a person decides to get their jollies should never be an option. Killing an unborn baby because the life of the mother is in jeopardy is the better of two evils - either the baby keeps his/her life or the mother keeps hers, and in this case, the mother should win.

Someone said it's "not fair." And killing babies is fair?

I'm very sorry for your friend Brenda. Rather than being ostracized, she could have been embraced and taken care of. I'm so sorry she felt alone. And I'm sorry for the innocent baby she killed. I hope no one ever goes through that agony, and that everyone is given the opportunity to live. People have control over this.

Yes! People totally against abortion are rediculous. I FULLY understand being against it when the baby is like 3 months, but do people even think that they can have it done so early that the baby is the side of a pea? Sometimes having children ruins a young mother's live and the child's life if they are put in foster homes. I think it should be available in a certain time frame of the pregnancy at the mother's choice.

Ouch! Societal condemnation strikes again... birth to adoption without ostracization should always be an option for an unwanted pregnancy from consensual sex, abortion for pregnancy from rape, again without ostracization, should always have been an option. It should never be something worth taking your own life over! My condolences.

While I don't personally support abortion, with the exception of rape and incest, its a tough thing to make it completely illegal because of those two unfortunate events. I think making it more restrictive, ie requiring counseling. Creating life in this world is such a great gift, that it is unfortunate that people decide to strike it away. I say first try abstinence with exception of marriage, then birth control, with all the birth control options now a days, its rediculous this still goes on when they were just too lazy to use birth control in the first place.

nope- i don't think abortion should be an option. There are so many other ways to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Anyway you look at it...abortion is the murder of an unborn child. Eveyone is entitled to there own opinion, but mine is that abortion is wrong. I could go into great detail about this but im sure a bunch of other people will do that....so i won't even bother you with that.

No, abortion should not be an option because it is the killing of a child. It was wrong at the time your friend killed herself and it is wrong now.

The solution to an unplanned pregnancy is not abortion, but care and support (financial, emotion, physical, and spiritual) for the woman and her child. After delivery, the woman and child may still need support whether the woman decides to keep the child or not.

I think First of all now adays birth control is readily available and so first and foremost it should be used as well as condoms but if something happens and a woman gets pregnant and cannot keep it or it was a product of rape or something than yes I think abortion is OK but if it is used as a form of birth control that is not only bad for the mother and can cause her to be sterile but it is morally wrong
