The simple answer to your question is that they will not apologize.

He accused the US Marines involved in the so called "Haditha Killings" (coined by the media) murderers.

Murtha is a retired US Marine (reservist) and he got on TV and called is fellow Marines murderers without them being convicted in military court.

Now those same Marines have been cleared, Murtha will never apologize for that. He will sit back and hope that everyone forgets the whole thing.

As a Marine I will never forget what Murtha did. He is a disgrace.

To the guy above me who said "Murtha has been to war.".....

Murtha was a staff officer in the USMC reserves during Vietnam and saw no combat action aside from the stories he fabricated.

I remember seeing him on TV calling Marines involved in combat operations in Haditha Iraq "murderers." Now it seems that the Marines accused have been cleared after a lengthy investigation.

As a former US Marine who has been in combat I find his actions completely unacceptable.

When you are a US Marine every Marine until the day you die is your brother aka....That means you dont get on TV and call them murderers when they havent been convicted in a military court ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING AN ELECTED OFFICIAL.

He did nothing but discredit HIS OWN SERVICE AND FELLOW MARINES.

He effectively convicted his fellow Marine on TV PRIOR TO THE INVESTIGATION.

Now they are cleared, and they did not participate in an illegal killing, had they then trust me the USMC would have burned them in a heartbeat but they didnt.

Apologizing would be the honorable thing to do, however it would seem that Murtha has no honor not to his country, not to his corps, and not to his fellow Marine.

He is a disgrace.....

Some of the people above me wanted links with information showing what Murtha said so I have provided them.

To dgreg44 below me....
Let me clue you in on the US criminal justice system and military law....

If you are accused of a crime, and the charges are dropped then you are cleared of any wrong doing.

Have you ever been in combat??
If you are a member of the armed forces and you respond to enemy fire it is entirely possible that civilians may get inbetween you and the enemy without your knowledge. It is a FACT that our enemies in Iraq position themselves around civilians ON PURPOSE so that if anyone responds to their fire there is a chance that the civilians will be killed by US forces.

I once watched a sniper in An-Nasaryah pin down a squad of Marines and every time he shot he would place a 6 year old Iraqi girl back into the window frame from which he was shooting thereby causing the Marines to be unable to shoot into the room without killing her.

They do things like this on purpose. They hide arms, and personnel in mosques or civilian locations to deter US retaliation.

The Marines in Haditha were subjected to an IED attack that killed one Marine, and they then took fire from some adjacent buildings they saw no civilians so they returned fire. If any civilians were killed I am quite sure that they were being used as shields.

You call the Marines animals, I call them people who were put in a life threatening situation who responded the best they could given the circumstances.

It must be nice for you to sit back and Monday-morning-quaterback what people have to do in combat...you having never been in a situation like that.

The Dems accused no one. The charges against the Marines were brought up by the Marine Corp itself. While Murtha's (an ex Marine himself) comments were a bit harsh, he says he was only repeating information he was told by the Marine Corp initially in the investigation. Does he owe the accused Marines an apology once all of trials are finished? Probably.

Murtha doesn't need to offer any apology. He expressed an opinion. An opinion that is shared by the vast majority of the world who refer to Haditha as a "massacre". The Marines were NEVER cleared. The lead prosecutor simply dropped the charges as he indicated there was insufficient evidence to prove a case that the incident was "premeditated homicide". That means a homicide occurred, just in his understanding, potentially not a provably pre-meditated one.

These marines who went into Haditha are animals! They slaughtered innocent civilians, including women and children as young as 1 year old. None of that matters to the Republicans however, because when it comes down to it. They don't consider Iraqi's "humans" and thus don't have the same level of preference for treatment as do Americans.

Simply look at the various responses of the Republicans/Marines here as example. Haven't seen one of you express a sorrow for the loss of these 24 Iraqis'. No, you're all too concerned with your own pride being run through the mud.

Murtha would have to have character to apologize for what he said. As a result - he never will.

Just like Senator Durban never apologized for accusing the troops at Gitmo of practicing torture.

Just like Senator Kerry never apologized for his lying (under oath) about US troops committing 'war crimes' in Vietnam.

I doubt he'll ever apologize. He's got too much invested in wishing, hoping, praying that they'd be found guilty. After all he called them murderers before trial - now he'd have to eat his words. For an arrogant Lib windbag like him I think it would be too much to ask.

No, he will never apologize! He should be run out of town! He certainly doesn't deserve to be a member of our congress.

dgreg44--- catch up on the news and maybe you won't look so foolish! lol

It's obvious you're looking for one answer in particular - the answer that agrees most with your question. No, that's not what Yahoo! Answers is for, you dunce.

To humor you, I'll answer your question for real. Murtha told me he'd apologize after you went out and washed his car. A light coat of wax when you're done too, thanks.

I don't really know what you're talking about, but I believe the military does their own investigations when they believe there should be one.
