This is a story about Issac Newton. So Newton had a friend who was a scientist and devout atheist. So one day Newton invited him over for dinner and after dinner he brought out a amazing model of the solar system. When Newtons friend saw this he immediately gasped and said "Who made such a perfect model!!". Newton then said "No one, this model simply occurred from no where and is as it is". The man bewildered said that that was impossible. Newton simply laughed and said "If you dont believe that this model can appear form nowhere than why do you think the actual thing did?".

What universes do? Quite an answer. That says nothing. Things like a UNIVERSE dont just happen. How did it happen?

... and the friend replied "because that's what universes do".

Would you expect a universe to be subject to the same laws as the things *within* a universe? I can't see any reason that it would. More likely to the contrary, in fact.

Oooh, never hear that one before.

So, if every complex thing needs a more complex creator (the core of your argument here) what made God?

If an infinite, and so infinitely complex God can 'just be', why can not the same be said for a less complex universe?

If it has to be infinitely complex to 'just be' then why can't the universe be infinite, and so infinitely complex - just not sentient?

Or could it be that this is just a trite argument for weak minds to avoid having to do some heavy thinking?

BTW, your story is a fake:

Although it is fairly close to Newton's own beliefs:
Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.
Isaac Newton.

Then I assume the friend had to patiently explain to Sir Isaac the difference between man-made and natural. Sad to see that one of the great geniuses in history was a bit of an idiot. Luckily I know this story never actually happened.
