For the most part, it probably is wrong. A beer is keeping the homeless from getting cleaned up, sober and maybe doing something with their lives. A beer is also contributing to the homeless persons slow, painful and early death. The person buying the beer is called the "enabler", enabling the homeless person to carry on in their downward spiral.

Now on the other hand, there are a lot of ways to quit drinking so that you can manage your life. Some people go "cold turkey", that is, they just quit and never drink alcohol again. Some must go cold turkey, because if they don't, they are going to die from the effects of alcohol (hallucinations, delirium tremens, having seizures and swallowing their tongue causing them to choke to death, onset of disease caused by alcoholism - liver and kidney disease, fried brain syndrome, stomach cancer, etc...

However, some go through a whole process of weaning themselves off alcohol, slowly ridding themselves of the addiction and its crippling effects. So they may have "a slip" from time to time, but ultimately they are the only ones who can say they are not going to drink anymore and cause themselves bodily harm. So you can always offer them a beer, but it isn't going to help them on the path the better health.

That homeless are all alkies is an urban myth.
Street drunks are a small- but visible- part of the homeless in the USA. The largest groups are women and children.
Buy them a Beer. (ice cream for the kids)

No, anyone who thinks that when someone is homeless that it is because of addiction needs to quit generalizing.

Of course some are, but by all means the poor bastard doesn't have a house! Give the man a beer!

naw... it ain't so wrong, especially if you give them a sandwich to go with the beer. and maybe sit down with them for a little chat. often homeless folks are mentally disabled, misunderstood and shunned so are lonely as well as homeless, beerless and sandwichless.

PS. there are a lot of disabled and homeless veterans living on the streets of America. they've already been abandoned by the people and government they served. how dare you moralizing snobs deny him a frigging beer?!

Yes. Give him the money and let him decide whether he wants to buy a beer or not. If anyone needs a beer, it is a guy who takes crap from people all day long and is forced to live in the gutter!

well there are many people who say that if you give a homeless person money, they just spend it on booze.

so if you buy them some white castles, and also a beer, then you're really helping them out!

If He/She wanted a beer I would buy them a beer, if they wanted a meal I`d buy the meal, too much moralizing gets nothing done.
