I couldn't define religion in 8 letters. I'm not religious. I'm spiritual. A religion is different than a relationship with God. Religions just introduce you to different paths to God.

Maybe "conflict" because it seems to cause so much of it.

These all would ber acceptable: antecedent, apriority, assignment, assumption, attribution, axiom, basis, belief, conclusion, condition, conjecture, data, deduction, demonstration, derivation, explanation, foundation, ground, guess, inference, interpretation, layout, lemma, philosophy, plan, position, postulate, premise, presupposition, principle, proposal, proposition, rationale, reason, scheme, speculation, starting point, suggestion, supposition, surmise, system, tentative law, term, theorem, thesis.

These are the only one with 8 letter but they are not necessarily the best choice!
