How long, does it take the virus to attack the baby after the mother is infected?
What are the symptoms?
Can it be caused by food? What kind of food?

There are a lot of reasons a baby would die in utero. Often, it's because of an immune system issue. Technically, a baby is "foreign," so it's natural for your own immune system to want to step in and destroy it. Of course, this is bad for the species, because we want to multiply and all. Nature has a mechanism (evolved or god-given: you decide) that suppresses a woman's immune system so that she can carry her baby to term. This is why pregnant women are prone to illness and have to be very careful with their health.

There is a species of *bacteria* (different from viruses! if you're not sure if it's a virus or bacteria, just say "germs") that can kill a baby while it is in the mother. It is called Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria for short).

Listeria is a common rod-shaped bacteria that live all over the place. They like cool climates, so they are notorious for thriving in the fridge. For most part, Listeria is harmless to healthy people. But it can kill fetuses and the elderly. Depending on how it's infecting you, it could cause high fever, diarrhea, headaches, meningitis and some other stuff.

Many women contract Listeria by eating unsafe foods. If you are pregnant, do not eat/drink the following things:
unpasteurized milk
unpasteurized milk products
homemade cheese or imported quesos
cold deli meats (cooked piping hot is fine)
cold hot dogs
ready-made salads with cold meat on them (like pre-packed chicken cæsar salad)
raw juices (fresh pressed carrot, etc.)

btw, on the off-chance that you are looking to get sick as some cheap, messed-up way to abort a baby, let me remind you that if you get Listeria, you will still carry your kid into the late 2nd or third trimesters AND you will be sick in the hospital. It's not a way to hide a pregnancy. If you are found to be sick with Listeria, you will be reported to the health department, and we will ask a battery of questions. And a lot of times, the baby will survive the sickness, and come out pretty damaged. Once I interviewed a 16-yr-old girl whose baby came out very sick with Listeria. She got no prenatal care and she wasn't taking care of herself. It made me wish I could have reached into the phone to slap her. That baby was born at 22wks, 2lbs and somehow survived.

It depends what kind of viris it is. Different illnesses take different times to process throught the body. Syptoms are throwing up and, nashia, and dizzyness.

It maybe can be caused by food like if your allergic to it.
