Actually, Locks of Love requires a minimum of 5" (I think) to make a synthetic wig, and if you have your hair cut off long enough to put in a ponytail, that'll make a 'real' wig (I think it's 8" or more).
I've done it before and it's very rewarding knowing that your hair will benefit someone else and not just go in the trash can. The main thing is to ask your hairdresser if he/she will donate your hair to Locks of Love, because not all salons do.
Good luck!

My mother in law does it once a year (a red head as well). I think it's a great idea and if I could handle my hair being SO LONG and then SO SHORT all at once, I'd do it too.
It's a great idea, all you need is a donation form and a plastic bag to put the braid/ponytail in once it's cut.

Oh and you CAN use permed or color treated hair, it says so on their web site.
Good Luck to you!
P.S. You can send in pictures of yourself too if you'd like for the kids to know where the hair came from.

Yes, that's a good idea. I've never done it, but somebody out there would be very happy to have some hair. I know plenty of people who've done it. Why are you coming to Y!A for validation? You have the right to make your own choices, no matter what anybody else thinks.

That's a great cause to cut your hair for. My best friend did it last year, and a little girl I babysit did it a few years ago. I've never done it myself though. I've never had extremely long hair, except when I got my first haircut at the age of 5.

That would be so good of you. I'm growing out my hair right now so I can do that very thing. I know several friends who have done it. It's definitely a big change, plus it's for an extremely good cause. What could be better than that?

i think its a great idea. you give hair to a good cause- locks of love doesn't only support cancer- it also does other diseases that cause people to lose their hair. Your hair will grow back, and you get the opportunity to try a new hairstyle, while feeling good that you are doing something for someone else.

I think its a very generous and caring thing to do---if you want a new look, then I feel that this is the best way to go about it. Afterwards, you can't regret what you did because you are helping out another person.
