For the record I want to state that I am in no way involved in white supremacy or a bigot at all. I am asking this merely from a curiousity point of view.

I could understand it being a crime if you are a member of a white supremacy group that is responsible for murders, arson, and other crimes but what about just being a member of a "harmless" white supremacy group; whether that is the right choice of words I don't know but what I meant is that the group is not directly related to actual crimes. The group is there just to preach white power/supremacy and all that but does not get involved with murders and such.

So, is it a crime to be involved with a white supremacy group in general or just the ones that cause actual harm?

No -- it is not a crime to be a member of any group.

UNLESS -- by being a member, you contribute or assist that group in committing crimes. That assistance is illegal.

So, if one chapter of the group committed murder/arson/whatever, and you were a member of another chapter in a different part of the country, with no direct contact -- that would probably not be illegal.

Otherwise, your contributions and assistance would make you subject to accomplice liability for the actions of others.

No, it's not a crime to be a member. White supremacy is a racist ideology based on the assertion that white people are superior to other races. The term is sometimes used specifically to describe a political ideology that advocates social and political dominance for whites. It is a group that I would not want to be associated with.

Politicians shy away from white supremacy groups, but will suck up to groups like La Raza that are just as racist.
Nobody bats an eyelash at the Latin Grammys, or when Mexico's President says that our borders mean nothing.
But the 'Caucasion Grammy's' woud be racist. If Bush said that "America does not end at our borders," the world would have a sh!t-fit.

There is no such thing as a "harmless" white supremacy group, unless you believed there were some "harmless" SS during WW2, or "harmless" child pornographers, or "harmless" Taliban.
While it may not be a crime to be a member of any supremacist group, white or not, it is an admission to the world of serious character flaws.

It's not a crime to be a member of any group or party, it's not even a crime to be a member of a group which participates in illegal activities. However depending upon your actions you may be an accessory to a crime by being associated with those who commit crimes.

However you will be judged along with those you associate with.

It is not a crime in the US to be a member of any group so long as that group is not engaged in criminal activity. However, in other countries, it is illegal to be members of some political groups (Nazis for one). This is due to the historic abuses caused by these groups.

Nope, technically the supreme court has ruled that gangs and white supremacy groups are legal as you are simply expressing your freedom of speech. However in the event that you do anything illegal, its not a great thing to have on your record...

Technically you are acting out of your own jurisdiction to kill someone. You make the choice, not the group, so you alone are tried.
