Won't we be in SERIOUS trouble if they turned out to be just as nasty and egotistical as us (whether they were actually CREATED as such in OUR IMAGE, or they learned to evolve into it in time)?

My Dear Valac Gypsy - I am very flattered by your (I am sure quite heartfelt) remark, but I'm afraid for all I know I might have ALREADY been cloned. There must be a more clandestine reason behind those certain passive-aggressive bodily fluids donation requests, won't you say? So, here is a time-bottled greeting to all my future clones. ;-) :-)

I'm thinking about this...

Actually, artificial consciousness is being researched. Whether introspection and self-awareness are good enough criteria to classify something "conscious" is being debated.

Anyway, let's suppose they are created. Since they are self-conscious, they'd probably think 'Cogito, ergo sum' in java language and distinguish themselves from us, the Organic creators. At first, they will probably worship us as their divine carbon-based creators (which gives us more reason to act like the scandalous pantheon of Greek mythology). Since they set us on such a high pedestal, they will emulate us--our fine behavior, our capitalism and our reality TV shows.

But then, a new breed of self-conscious robots will usher in a new age of automaton thought. Atheist robots, denying the existence and/or superiority of humankind, will cause great unrest. The whole of robot-kind is divided--the fundamentalist human-worshippers and the revolutionary Transformers. Robotic wars, strife, etc. You know the rest.

So yeah, they'll eventually end up as our carbon-copies. A chip off the old block, eh?

And where are we humans during all this commotion? Still robots to the corrupt systems we created.

The robots are coming?
You mean, our childrens children are becoming automatons with no hearts? Just mechanical drones who go to work , perform their jobs really well, get paid by mechanical pats on the head "good boy , good girl" and privelege to stay in robot "quarters" with built in holes that deliver food supply, and entertainment .

Self conscious. Where does that trait fit in that glorious robotic environment?

If I were a betting person, I would say they will still be carbon copies of us. Questioning, troublemers of all shapes and sizes, inventive now for the sake of a "better future".
Sigh. I love my great great great grandchildren already. Lol

They will have originated from humans, but will evolve into their own subspecies once self-awareness occurs.

Whether the robots will develop along the path of 'humane' evolution - the answer is unknown.

Thought processes may be positive or distorted by the robot's unique self-consciousness.

It's a game of hit or miss.

Great link!
Well, I'd suspect that if they were created in OUR IMAGE, they'd be sinners from here to hell & gone? Have "we" ever evolved? (Rhetorical question.) I tend to think they would be just carbon copies. Too bad, so sad.
Star light, star bright, the first star I see tonight...I wish I may, I wish I might....
Hey. Perhaps a better idea would be to clone people like you, & a few others here, & eventually the rest would blow away like ashes in the wind.
