OKAY, I HAVE A VERY VERY CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, I AM NOT CATHOLIC, ALTHOUGH I WOULD LIKE TO RAISE MY SON AS THAT RELIGION, MY QUESTION WAS SIMPLY WHAT PRAYERS IF ANY WERE TO BE SAID DURING THE CEREMONY, BUT SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY JUDGMENTAL PEOPLE ON HERE PLEASE DISREGARD MY QUESTION. THANK YOU!

Generally, no. You will need to answer some questions with "I will" or "I do" dealing with your intent to raise your son as a christian.

The only group prayer might be the "our father" and note this well - the catholics don't say the whole thing uninterrupted. After "but deliver us from evil" the priest pops in with something and you say the rest of the prayer until after he's done.

Other than that, you'll probably just have to listen and say amen to prayers the priest recites.

And just a note to everyone who's carping about this. I am an Atheist and both my kids were baptized. My Atheism doesn't call for me to go through life trying to make other people uncomfortable. If baptizing my kids made my relatives and in-laws feel good, then what's the harm? People have their own reasons for doing things and it's not up to you (christians or atheists) to pass judgement.

And why are you doing this? For Grandma or something? Catholic parishes usually have training sessions for this. The expectation is that the child will be raised as a Catholic. Otherwise, why bother?

There is a profession of faith that the parents/godparents say as proxy for the child. The responses are "I do." There are about six of them, with an "Amen" at the end. But if you don't believe what you are asked to affirm, it's kind of hypocritical. I'd rethink this, unless your partner is really insistent.

basically you will be asked some simple questions about how you will agree to raise your child -- rejecting satan, rejecting his evil works, training them in God - things like that. there should be a training class and at least one of the godparents has to be Catholic. you will not have to recite anything but some will have you do a repeat after me.
the child will be baptized with water - held by the godparent(s), blessed with oil (you'll have to undo the top a little) and then the godfather will stand with a candle to pass along Christ light - so that the cchild will know and share Christ's love with others.

realize though, that by baptising your child catholic you are telling the priest and the "world" that you will raising him Catholic. you may need to do a little studying yourself ; ) my best friend is not Catholic and yet she knows more detailed information about the faith then her husband does who is! she sends her children to CCD, read them bible stories when they were little and tries her best to keep them on track.

i'm thankful you have a relationship with God. I pray that while you are teaching your son your love of God -- you will both grow and grow and come to enjoy even more!!!

God Bless you!

Pledge belief in the One Holy and Apostolic church! And vow to raise the child as Catholic.

Why bother?
Sounds like a Christian upbringing isn't in the child's future.
What are you looking to gain from it?

Perhaps this is an opportunity to discover why people do this and the deity behind it all?

Do you or your son know what baptism means ? It doesn't mean that it helps some one go to heaven . Ephesians 2:8,9 If it did then why did Jesus suffer so much , shed his innocent blood , and die on the cross for then ? www.fbbc.com

Why are you insisting on doing this if you're not Catholic and don't go to church? There's no point, so why waste time?

Just curious, if you have no background with baptism, why would you have your child baptized?

Your child is not old enough to choose what they believe so why would you baptize them?
