what can i do?
i dont want to put a muzzle on the poor girl every time we go out?
she is very nice and loving and still just a puppy.
i live in covington, ky and the city makes this mandatory among other rules you must follow to own them.

PLEASE HELP, if you have any advice to follow or know any other cities nearby that will allow them without and constraints let me know.

also, so the law goes to take it out in your yard you must have a cage with a lid, i suppose a bottomless cage so the dog can be in the grass, and when walking with the muzzle a 3 ft. leash at the longest! and where my parents live the dog is completely banned! this is ridiculous. how do i go about trying to stop this nonsense??

I'd move. I couldn't live in a place that made me treat my dog like it was viscious just because of it's breed! You might check out this site and scroll down to Kentucky:
http://www.rott-n-chatter.com/rottweilers/laws/breedspecific.html
If a city is listed as having decided against breed specific restrictions, call that city's Animal Control and ask if there are any breed specific restrictions on Pit Bull dogs. If they say YES, then please update this site! But at least there are places to check out in your state where you might be able to move to and enjoy your dog! I can't imagine having to muzzle my two year old APBT! She's such a sweetie, greets the neighbors and their kids all the time...

If something is mandatory it normally means required . Also meaning there is no way to work the situation out . You have to do what the city tells you if you dont want a ticket . Put a muzzle on her to see how it goes for a couple of days if she doesnt like it and if you dont have a fenced in yard then theres nothing you could do ..

Alot of people have been hurt by those dogs its sad that they think all are like that but i feel if they have been brought up good they will be ok but some say its in the genes the fighting and there are some that go after their owners later in life. so i am not sure but the law is there to protect you and if you dnt' abide by it well you will be paying for the consequences. its very sad but if you have ever been bite by a dog you would understand. yes there are cities that band these dogs and reasons are there to see. take care. i doubt with as much publicity they get when they bite people you could change this law.

If you chose to get a pit bull in a city that has strict rules about owning them then you need to follow the rules or lose your dog.

If you didn't want to put a muzzle on to take a dog out you should have purchased another breed that doesn't have those type of restrictions. When you bought the dog you subconsiously accepted the rules of the city so you should follow them.

With all the stupid laws that ppl are passing, I guess I'd rather muzzle my dog than lose them forever. I heard that they passed a cat law in Wi, which gives ppl the right to shoot stray cats. They say they are killing the birds. But how can you tell if it is a stray cat or someone's pet? Another stupid law. Ppl need to stop blaming the pet and blaming the owners.

You could go the the governor or form a group against muzzling pit bulls. Don't give up. Pit bulls are wonderful dogs and most aren't "vicious".

Sorry, but I'm sure there is no way around it. I'm sure your dog is very nice, but because pit bulls are notorious for being mean, other people walking down the street want to feel safe. I'm terrified of most big dogs and I know I would feel safer if I knew a dog couldn't bite me. But still, I understand why you wouldn't want to put a muzzle on her. She might be embarrassed. :(

Unfortunately, when something is mandatory, there's usually no way to work around it.

You could try to enroll your pup in classes that will give her a certificate of good citizenship but even with that, it may not change anything.

Ask around your home, and maybe someone will know where to go for more freedom.

I am very sorry to hear you live in such a place, but if it is mandatory you have no other choice other than to follow the law or you could move to a place without BSLs

In the UK we have the same stupid pit ban, my friend has to drive his an hour or so away to the nearest feild for walks. I don't suppose you could do the same? But the easiest option would just be to get a well made fitted muzzel. They adjust to collars and harnesses so I guess she could adjust to a muzzel?
