Okay I'm listening to her yesterday and this womoan calls up and sys she's been dating this guy for 2 years I think. The women sys she's had sex with him and it was no good. Dr Laura proceeds to tell her that this is a "red flag" and to not marry the man, but to keep him as a good friend. I'm now lost. This is the same Dr. Laura that reams people for "shacking up" before marriage. Now she's telling this women basically if the premarital sex is not good. To not get married. So what if you wait and the sex is not good?

I was listening too, and was suprised dr. laura didn't get on her back about how she shouldn't have sex without being married to him. Still, since it had already happened and it was not good, Dr. Laura wanted to let her know that it probably won't change once they're married. Anyways, to answer ther question- if you wait and the sex is crappy, then you can't really be upset. If you love someone enough to want to spend the rest of ur life with them- and everything but the sex is wonderful, it's probably going to work out just fine...unless sex is just that important to you!!

Did not hear the show, but based on what you wrote...the advice given was to not marry, but it also implies not sleeping with either. Just try to remain civil and try to come out of the relationship as friends. That is what the doctor was trying to say.
We all take our chances I suppose with marriage. Most of the time with some honest communication between two people, problems can be resolved, to the great happiness of both persons. .

I always thought Dr. Laura was a whack job. And she doesn't practice what she preaches.

The only way you'll know that the sex is bad, when you wait, is when you had premarital sex to begin with.

That's one reason I don't wait...sexual compatibility is too important for me not to know what I'm getting (and him too) before saying "I do". Sexual issues tend to infiltrate other areas of a relationship, and eventually bring it down.
