As I became more educated, my mysticism faded... finally I realized I wasn't Christian

The only way in my opinion that these two go hand in hand is to teach kids to respect each others freedom to believe in what ever feels right to them spiritually.
After thought: I believe that is one of the very reasons why some folks got on the boat to come to this country to begin with. Religious Tolerance.

Religious organizations created education.
The major universities like Oxford, Yale, and Harvard were started by holy men and women whom wanted to provide education and had charisms in that area.
Still today in underdevolped contries that don't have a communist social education system it is only the religious organizations like the Jesuits who provided education to the very young.
