we have had fleas in our house for a few months now, trying to get rid of them. my dogs have around 10 fleas on them everyday. one day, though, i got home and was petting my chi deuce and i noticed nothing out of the ordinary. then i saw a couple black spots on him (fleas) and took him into the bathroom to pick them off. he is a small dog, so if he has fleas, you can pretty much find them all in a couple of minutes. i picked the ones that i saw off, and as i kept going through his fur, there were more and more. eventually the fleas started falling off of him there were so many. i had to put him into the bathtub just so there werent fleas all over my floor. i got about 150 to 200 total off of him. my question is where did they all come from. its like they appeared out of thin air, and if there had been that many on him to start with, i would have noticed, because like i said, he is a chi. its like he had 10 fleas, and within 2 minutes they multiplied into 100. how is this possible?

You need to get a flea bomb for your house, they are pretty inexpensive and you can get them at any hardware store. Fleas lay eggs in carpet, mattresses, baseboards, basically anywhere they can hide. They multiply like crazy, so you will just have to fumigate the house.

A single flea can lay about 20 eggs every couple of days. The eggs hatch within a few days and next thing you know...your dog is infested.
I strongly suggest you get your dog on a flea program like Advantage, Frontline...something GOOD (not Hartz, Bio Spot..waste of $$, they don't work)
IF your dog is a Chihuahua, having hundreds of fleas on her is not good...she can become ememic, also, I would have her tested and treated for tapeworm. Since tapeworm is caused by fleas..usually a dog with fleas will have tapeworm.

Fleas are amazingly good at making baby fleas. This is probably because they only live for about two days each. As soon as you can treat your dog and then your house so they don't reinfest him. At the very least, take care of his fleas and get him on a monthly prevention program.

Poor little guy!! Fleas are awful, because they lay tons of eggs and it could be the eggs all hatched. Also, if they are coming into your house somehow, he could have attracted more of them. I would definitely recommend Frontline right away for Deuce, because a little dog like him can get anemia and serious problems from a bunch of fleas sucking his blood. You can get it without a prescription- it's a liquid you put on his skin. It will kill the fleas quick and keep them and ticks off for a month. You should put it on your other pets, too. Most vets sell it, or you can call smaller pet supply stores and ask if they have it. Petco and petsmart won't sell it without a vet's order (which is stupid). Good luck!

When temperature and humidity conditions are right, flea eggs will hatch out very quickly. I would recommend you get Capstar from the vet and give him a tablet twice a week. It will kill any live fleas on him for 24 hours. In between, apply Advantage or Frontline every month without bathing in between. Use a product to spray the carpets that kills flea eggs. You will get rid of them, but it takes time. Be sure all pets are treated.

If you have carpeting in your house or in your room, chances are the fleas are in the carpeting. It doesn't matter how many times you de-flea your dog, if you don't get rid of the fleas in the carpet, your dog will constantly re-infest.
They will even get on you to feed just like they're getting on your dog.

You might want to treat your dogs with Frontline, or another type topical flea treatment to help with this problem.
If you can find 10, I can guarantee you there were already tons you couldn't see.
