I know, seriously! Something makes me think they spend more time in the "Rashes and Skin Irritation" section than they want you to know about.

I used to wonder until the violations started coming in for questions or answers that did not violate anything other than another persons opinion. Christians say it is the Atheists, Pagans and Atheists will say it's the Christians. I would say my contacts are a very diversified group. Very few of us hold to the same belief system, but I know that they are not a bunch of mouse clicking fools, just looking for an excuse to hit "Offensive." I have kept my contacts to under seventy or so. I have communicated with almost everyone on my list at least once by email. It not only protects me, but it protects treasured friends I have come to respect for who they are. I have a few blocked that were "trolling." If you are interested becoming a contact of someone, email them, and introduce yourself. Let them check you out!

It might not be that they're "hiding" anything that you need to worry about. I had my questions and answers private for a while because I had someone on here who would go through my questions and answers, and give me a hard time. That's the same reason a lot of people have made theirs private. I've opened them back up, though.

As indicated Moxie, there have been a rash of reportings that have people losing their accounts. Some believe that they use the contact list and the Q & A list to find and report people. So many here have become very cautious about letting people see that information.
A friend of mine on this forum has received several violation notices. Yet her posts have always been positive and helpful. Atheist Eye Candy has lost 17 accounts. So please understand that they don't mean to irritate anyone, they are simply trying to protect their accounts.

I hated doing it, but a troll report-stalked me. He reported 7 of my questions before I made it private. I don't know how close I am to being deleted because of that. The real crappy part is that not only did I get the reports, but I feel like they won with me having to compromise and make my Q&A private.

I hide mine to protect my contacts. The only thing worse than knowing one of my friends is being attacked by a troll is knowing that the troll in question is using my network to get to them. I don't like parasites. Why feed them?

It will irk you even more when people go back through your old, resolved Q/A's to report you maliciously. I'm guessing an inbox full of violation notices will have you setting your Q/A's and Contacts to private as well.
You should never assume that people are hiding something--they're just protecting themselves from trolls & report-a-lots. :))

It used to bother me, too...until someone went through reporting my questions and answers and I had no other choice but to make my own Q/A private. If you like someone's questions and answers, add that person as a contact.

I keep mine public but I'm about to go private because there are just too many angry people with nothing better to do then send out hate mail just because I refuse to drink the kool-aid our government is handing out.

For me, it's a method of self-preservation. Certain people will troll through your Q&A looking for things to report you about in an effort to get your account deleted. In addition to this, I also have a healthy blocked list. Some of my Q&A may still get reported, but at least they'll have to dig through other people's questions before they can find anything else to report me for.

Nope. Many have no choice but to make them private because of stalkers and report-monkeys. Just yesterday, I even had to disable the fans option - again - because of (apparently) a false friend.
