I thought Jesus was a little less rude than his followers?

It is unclear whether first-century Israel had concepts of "trespassing" similar to those today, but the bible itself tells us that Jesus did many things which remain unknown to humans today.

(John 21:25) There are, in fact, many other things also which Jesus did, which, if ever they were written in full detail, I suppose, the world itself could not contain the scrolls written.

Adherents of the 'Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses' appreciate that others connect them so closely with the door-to-door ministry established by Christ Jesus himself. Incidentally, modern Jehovah's Witnesses respect conspicuous "No Trespassing" signs.

(Matthew 10:7,11,14) As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’ ...Into whatever city or village you enter, search out who in it is deserving... Wherever anyone does not take you in or listen to your words, on going out of that house or that city shake the dust off your feet.

Bambi I agree with you! We go out in service at 9:30 am not midnight or 3 in the morning! And if someone doesn't want to know the Truth about Jehovah they usually say no but a couple of times had people slam the door shut in our faces. We move on and if we see a beware of dog sign or No trespassing sign we don't go to that door. And we RESPECT their wishes but some will ask for a study!

Wait... I think that's a foul for hitting below the belt already.

I'm not a JW myself but I doubt it very much if they actually did "trespass on [your] private property" as you claim they have done... UNLESS you have posted a SIGN at your fence or gate that CLEARLY WARNS EVERYONE who crosses the boundaries that you have set as your own. I'm sure that they either knocked on your front door or rang the bell.

Now I can understand the irritation caused by aggressive salespeople and religious proselytizers, especially when one is being interrupted during the middle of dinner time. But that's a "trespass" of a different color, amigo.

Be glad that you're not in their shoes since you are not being coerced to do what they have to do.

Peace be with you.

Honestly, we don't know for sure. He did have the disciples go from home to home, though presumably, as we Witnesses do, they tried to be respectful and come at times when people were home. I gotta wonder when people on here get up and eat dinner and go to bed.

I see people on here talk about the Witnesses coming at 6am and at 3am and I laugh cause, except in rare cases, it just ain't so.

Meanwhile, Christ did go in to the temples that had perverted themselves, and make a whip of ropes, should we be doing that as well??

I'm sure that Jesus did, on occasion, call at a home when someone was eating dinner, but if the person didn't want to listen to him and told him not to come back, I'm sure he didn't, at least for a long time.

When Jehovah's Witnesses call on you during your dinner, you are also free to tell them not to return. They will honor your request and after good long while, only return to see if you have changed your mind, or they might want to see if someone new lives there.

Jehovah's Witnesses will respect your decision to refuse to discuss the scriptures as Jesus did back then.

How would they know you were eating dinner, do they have x-ray vision, like Superman?

It is not private property, unless you have a fence & gate, besides the "supreme court of U.S." passed a law years ago giving them the right to knock on doors, if it was not for this law that the Jehovah Witnesses got, then it would be against the law for "Boy or Girl Scouts" to go door to door, surely you would not be against this, would you? Or any other religion.

"unsilencedlamb" I actually agreed with you, gave you a thumbs up.

I don't know. We get JW's around here some mornings, and it's never convenient, but they're so damn *nice* I feel guilty for giving them the bum's rush.
They're only doing what they believe is right, so I can't get too mad at them. And they truly seem happy.

I thought stuffin'! ur face,
was not as important as hearing the words of everlasting life!?...?
'Sides we are usually out early in the a.m. then into afternoon at times, for some. No one goes out at dinner time, that i've ever experienced.

Maybe Jesus did. I remember a bible story about Jesus and his disciples busting in on a wedding celebration and turning water to wine.

You could have politely told your visitors that you and your family were having dinner and it was not a convenient time for their visit.

Well I'm not JW...but unless you have "no soliciting" signs and there are no signed "no trespassing" signs and you have not warned those specific people before it's not trespassing....

At least that's how it is in my state...you have to inform the people they're trespassing...
