I wanted to try some wines with steaks or meats to see what it tastes like. I have never had alcohol with food before and don't know what it tastes like. I sometimes buy hamburger meat and make hamburgers and just eat the meat by itself. Will wine go good with that?

In general, white goes w/ chicken, fish, sometimes pork. Red goes w/ red meat. That's IN GENERAL. It's not only the meat you are eating, but the seasonings/sauce that is on the meat as well. For example, if you're having veal piccata, even though the meat is technically "red", the sauce is a white wine butter and caper sauce. I would personally choose a sauv. blanc in this situation. Usually a pinot noir or merlot is a safe bet w/ hamburger. Now if it's heavily seasoned, I'd go w/ maybe a shiraz or red zin. Remember, wine is to be enjoyed. It's all a matter of personal taste. No one is right or wrong. In MY "personal opinion", drink wine with or without food, and you CAN'T go wrong!!

Steaks and red wine goes together well. Hamburger meat cries for beer however, preferably a hearty ale, although it isn't completely out of the question that you would pair wine with hamburger. It's just that I wouldn't do that.

Cabenet Sauvignon from Calistoga Cellars, or Gladiator Shiraz.

When wine or beer is used in cooking, the high temperature causes the alcohol to evaporate. All that you are left with is the concentrated flavor of the wine or beer. It absolutely will not hurt him.
