Christians on Answers are complaining that atheists are trying to do away with religion, they need to be saved, they "respect their views" but Christianity is still right, faith will always prevail, etc. Atheists are complaining that Christians are constantly trying to convert them, gain power in the government, and never use logic or truth in their arguments, etc.

Does everyone on this religion/spirituallity really get verbally attacked or ill-treated because of their religion/atheism on a daily or frequent basis? I've interacted with tons of classmates, workmates, relatives, in-laws, etc., and I never have people calling me out for being a Catholic fool with a made-up God, and never feel the urge to tell people they need to go to church or convert or anything. Does anyone here get consistently bugged by people in day to day life because of their religion? I'm talking about on interaction with individuals, not broad groups like "the Christians bug me" or the "atheists bug me".

No, I don 't face the kind of insults and persecution in real life that I find here on R&S.

I know for sure that the very people who come on with so much venom and hate (in the name of a loving God), would not say "boo" to me if I met them in the world.

There is safety for cowards in the anonymity of the internet.

I once had a job where I was the only Catholic in an office full of strongly anti-Catholic Fundamentalists. They resisted no opportunity to openly bash my religion. While growing up, my family was occasionally targeted by anti-Catholics, but they'd mostly just leave Chick tracts (http://www.chick.com) and other anti-Catholic literature on our property. Also, despite having a lot of atheist friends, I've also had a few atheists insult my religious beliefs, but they weren't half as strident as the Fundamentalists. On the whole, the vast majority of people I deal with respect my religion, just as I respect theirs, and we get along fine. Most of my close friends don't share my religious beliefs.

Not much. Every so often I get some idiot prejudiced against me because of the colour of my skin, and once I was told on the bus to 'go back where I came from' (I was born here), but here in Britain religious persecution is almost zero. The closest we have are the Jehovah's Witnesses at the tube station.

I'm in the same boat.
I have never "witnessed" to anyone. In fact, none of my co-workers even know what religion I am, and most of my family members only know second-hand. I do not seek converts, do not have Christian bumper-stickers, do not carry a Bible under my arm. And, in day-to-day life, no one has ever told me how stupid I am for believing in an invisible sky-fairy.

Oh, and the last time anybody tried to evangelize me was about 4 years ago. I said, "no thank you." That's it. Nobody is shoving religion down my throat, no one is telling me I'm going to hell.

Yes, just two days ago i was visited by Mormons trying to preach to me. My Father when he was alive loved to preach to me, as well as my Uncle. Just last Night i was told "I feel sorry for you" by a Christian Co-Worker when i brought up the fact that Christmas is actually a stolen Pagan Holiday. I live in Seattle so i am sure i do not even receive this as much as those in more religious areas.

i don't think of its a threat to truly "persecute" human beings in this internet site. you won't be able to truly harass everyone here when you consider which you won't be able to tension them to envision what you wrote. All you're able to do is write some thing that disagrees with them or makes exciting of them. If somebody believes that it is "persecution", that man or woman has a pathetically skinny epidermis and a warped view of certainty.

daily ..no
but I have had people say very mean and rude things to me when I profess my beliefs when asked .
once talking to a friend of mine about the Lord a Lady slapped and pushed me, once a man said very dirty remarks to me, but that was a while ago.
anyways Christan or not we should be allowed to proclaim our faith or lack there of without others bashing or harming us.
