The first time i read the bible...I cried ..
i kept crying as truth after truth unfold before me...

what made you decide to read it?-(it just came to me ...it was a holy week and there was not much on TV that day)...
did you read it randomly or continuously from cover to cover? -(continuously...i read it like how i would usually read a pocketbook)
did you skip some parts of it?- (Apocalypse...i couldn't decipher it so i decided it's best to leave it alone and not try to read and understand it...i find it so terrifying and so bewildering)
what's your favorite part?(or book)-(Job...amazing faith!)

I grew up hearing it read weekly and sometimes daily in mass.

So it was just out of curiosity that I started reading it on my own about age 13 or so. I wanted to read all of it in a year. I don't think I made it, but by age 17 I had read most of it at least twice. Now, it's well over 20 times; pretty much any time I get a new concordance.

No, I never cried. But I did ask a lot of people, both Catholic and non- what certain passages meant, and I got lots of good, wise help.

Well, for the New Testament, it was some understanding and some confusion. I read it because I was following the directions for my church class and wanted to do my best. I read it randomly, along with a study guide-putting tothether those passages that were written about the same events. I don't remember if I skipped parts or not, but there sure is a lot I don't remember from it. My favorite part now is Revelation, because I now understand it all. It has now been explained in plainness in a book I read that took my fear away. It's free at the 666america.com site.

I could read simple childrens books at an early age, because my mom read to me often. I remember picking up and looking at the Bible during this time, but also being frustrated that I couldn't understand the more complicated words. So, I have to say, when I became old enough to read and understand the Bible, and other inspriational scriptures and similar scriptures not included in the Bible, I enjoyed these readings very much.

I went through a religious phase of my life, and did indeed read the bible from and including Genesis to Revelation

I found the "begets" parts (Genesis) excruciatingly boring, it's great to fall asleep by, though. :) That's the only book I feel I probably just skimmed over. Although it also took a lot of time to fully enjoy Psalms and Proverbs - lot of great information there.

I find the prophetic books the most amazing because it seems it would be truly miraculous if things like Revelation happened. You know the part where it says, "and His Kingdom shall have no end..." and "Nations shall not rise against nation, men shall beat the swords into plowshares, and men shall learn war no more...." or something to that effect.

Thanks a great deal for this question. It is great to commune with fellow believers for a change.

I've often wondered how people can reject the bible, saying that its violent. For goodness sakes its a chronicle of the reality of this world and what believers in God were up against!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It doesn't endorse the violence it just records it and warns us in advance.

But I don't want to go off on that tangent again and waste my time.
Thanks again for a great question
God Bless You

I cried when I read revelations, until I was told that if someone is evil clear through there is nothing left to do but let them go. I wanted to be a minister since I was about 15. I grew up learning my religion, and studying the Bible. As I went along, I began to find conflicts between the Old and New Testaments. I was deeply concerned and afraid that everything I knew about God was wrong. However the problem wasn’t with God, the problems were within the way the Bible was interpreted. Then I was taught by one of the major Christian religions that they believe when The Christ was born, the Old Testament passed away. All its prophecies were fulfilled, and now we are to follow the New Testament and forget the Old one. Part of the reason I can’t believe in the God from the Old Testament, is that S/he doesn’t even faintly resemble the God from the New Testament. Many entities can convince man that they are God. However with the birth of Jesus, even the need for the 10 commandments were made obsolete. There is need for only one commandment. Christ told us the greatest commandment is: To love the Lord your God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and love thy neighbor as thyself. In my opinion, if one follows this one commandment, it is not possible to break any Commandments, or to sin.
Peace

1) My first reaction was that it seemed rather boring with archaic wording and no real direction.

2) I decided to read it because this was the book of the religion that was forced on me, and is still the most popular religion in my country. It's also a famous book in and of itself. So I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and to look up little passages I'd seen listed in movies and what not.

3) First it was pretty random. Then it was cover to cover

4) My eyes admitedly glazed over things like all those "begats" of the family line, and the redundant lines of Psalms.

5) My favorite line is still, hands down, 2 Kings 2:23-24. Close seconds are "Revelation" because it sounds like such a Clive Barker novel (though not written as well as he could have), and the parts of Leviticus and Deuteronomy that sound like a bad Monty Python sketch.

That was many years ago, but I guess I would say it 'hooked' me! I truly felt Jesus loved me and I loved to read His teachings. I still do. My pastor told me to read the New Testament first because the Old Testament would be difficult for me to understand at such a young age. The book of John is my favorite, if you can say you have a favorite. But I love the Christmas story and of course, Jesus dying on the Cross for me - what love! I've spent a lifetime studying and teaching His Word, and I never tire of it. There's a golden thread of love traveling from the book of Genesis to Revelation. Jesus is always there. And the beauty is, He's promised to be with me, even to the end. He's consistent. He can be trusted. I found that truth the first time I read His Word, and I find it every time I read it today - years later. I've read the Bible through many, many, times over the years, and my relationship with the Father deepens with each reading. Isn't it funny how John 3;16,17 sticks with you from childhood. God so loves us......... I still feel exhilarated everytime I read it.

When I was going through troubled times I thought to sit down down and read the bible, but not as a bible. I would read it as I would any other book and I was shocked! Much that was in there I had never been told of. Much I had been told was in it simply was not there. Something was radically wrong. I started going to various churches and making notes of scriptures quoted Mark X:XX what ever. I would go home and look them up. 25% of the time what was being said in churches was not what was written in the bible. I became as doubting as Thomas. Research showed me that the ancient translation of the bible, Young's Literal Translation to be specific. Often was quite different than the contemporary versions. So I started to look to alternatives to organized Christianity. I understood just how corrupted that religion had become.. Found the Gnostic scriptures, alternatives to the teachings of Jesus and found my spiritual home there. When it comes to the Divine, even one lie is far too many! Much less 25% of the time.

Can't remember the first time... but over the years I came to find it quite a fairy tale... just mumbojumbo with a bit of common sense thrown in for good measure... nothing to take too seriously for sure... just went to it once every year or so to look up some whacky thing some bible thumper was spouting about... that's all...

Till one day I just happened to need God... and He was there for me... just God and me... no Bible... did not even own one on The Day of my Salvation.... it was a Saturday and I did not buy a Bible till Monday... the day after my first Communion as a True Christian.... I now read by the leading of God through The Holy Spirit and I find something new and good every time I open it.... but my Faith is in God... not in any book

Please... not Job... I have yet to make it through that one.... First John.... John chpt. 17... Luke 1 & 2

The first time I read it, I didnt understand much, I was 12 and it was an Old English Catholic Bible but it did get through in many parts and I found discrepancies between it and Catholic teachings. I read it cover to cover... about 1 yr later I got an NIV which is written in modern English and easier to understand.. aside from geneologies I found the whole book to be very interesting and continue to read it. To date I have read it cover to cover 12 times :)

The first time i read the Bible i was about 6. I thought it was really boring and didn't understand any of it!
I usually read a book from the OT, then one from the NT, then back to OT etc. I'm reading Jeremiah at the moment.
Yes i don't read some parts, Revelation: i just don't understand a lot of it. And i don't think I've ever read Chronicles because of its similarity to Kings.
Fave book....John is my favorite from the NT. From the OT I love Job, Ezekiel and Habakkuk.
God bless!
