You can't deduct the cost of your time for volunteer work. You can deduct your reasonable expenses.

If you were sentenced to community service, it's in the nature of a fine, and of course not.

You can deduct your mileage to and from the site of community service.

You can deduct reasonable cost of materials and special training, too. But you can't credit yourself with an hourly wage or anything.

If you mean volunteer work, your expenses are deductible. Your time is not. Hence the word, "volunteer."
