Although they would not admit it, many Americans believe we should close our doors to all immigration, especially from Latin countries.

Unfortunate, but true.

Some people are. But like myself, most are not. This country was founded on immigrants. My grandparents were from Europe. They came here legally, learned English, and became productive Americans. They never asked for a handout, nor did they expect one. My grandfather kissed the ground here everyday, he was so happy to be here. The United States has always welcomed immigrants, the legal ones, and I believe will continue to do so. The illegal ones, are not welcome. They need to go home, and come in the right way, and stop using racism as an excuse.

It is getting that way but not just the USA all countries are now looking at their total immigration policy. Many in Europe want to slow it down because of the problems it is causing and totally US takes in 5 times more then all countries in the world together.
Totally with immigration legal and illegal plus all the different visas the total is just at 5 million as of 2006.
This country only creates 1 million jobs last year. that also includes the ones that have been outsourced and people who have retired.
This year and prediction for the next few years is said to be less jobs.
Yet, we still haven't changed the number of the legal applicators wanting to come here.
All countries should base immigration on what is best for the citizens of a country not the people wanting to come.

No - we love legal immigrants. They, just like the past generations, contribute and add to our country. One of the reasons that I'm against illegal immigration is because I see it as very unfair to those who wish to immigrate here the right way, and are waiting it out, doing the paperwork, etc. .

No. It's the pro-illegal side that wants to obscure the issue by trying to lump the two together. Legal immigrants are wonderful people, good citizens and excellent neighbors and colleagues.

Legal immigrants deserve respect. Illegal aliens are law breakers who do not deserve jobs, amnesty, educational subsidies, driver's licenses, and other benefits at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Illegal aliens first should be encouraged to Go Home voluntarily and then humanely deported as the law requires. Once the public recognizes that jobs and benefits equal encouragement the public will truly press for the flow to cease. Amnesties for illegal aliens have clearly made the problem worse and should be vigorously opposed.

To Peanut Head~
Quote "citizens are being denied jobs for cheaper labor done by even legal immigrants through the HB1 visas. If we really needed them....fine....and they should be paid exactly the same as our citizens"

Actually you are incorrect, on this visa the US employer is suppose to pay *above* the state/national average for the job if an American would be doing the job.

Part of the H1B visa paperwork is a study of similar jobs in that field and pay scale and job requirements in your state.

Americans' opinions about anything are incredibly diverse. Most people are only against illegal immigrants, but there is a sizable minority that also dislikes legal immigrants, especially if they're Latin American.

Okay first of all I think all of y'all are grouping against illegal aliens. Not all illigal aliens are criminals, legal aliend were illegal at some point when they crossed the border. So they had to go through a process where they became legal, now they are making it way difficult for honest, hardworking people to become legal. Do ya'll follow. You put illegal aliens as if they cant be honest and hardworking people. Example: In this world there are all sorts of people, You have good white, black, mexicans, asians, russians, whatever but on the other hand you also have bad a$$ people, in all those types of races, so why are you sterotyping certain kinds of people. Just because someone is illegal doesnt mean that they dont pay their taxes. For your information, illegal aliens have ways to pay their taxes with their real documentation, so stop being such a$$ about paying taxes, get over it everybody has to pay them, and you cant change that. And keep dreaming that yall will be able to take all the mexicans out of here. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!! SO GET OVER IT. WE WILL GET AN AMENSITY, YOU LIKE OR NOT, SO MOVE SOME WHERE ELSE IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, THAT SIMPLE AND EASY. THIS YOUR COUNTRY, WELL WE ARE TRYING TO BECOME PART OF YOUR COUNTYR AND WORK FOR OUR FAMILIES TOO, WHILE TRYING TO NOT BE ACCUSED AS CRIMINALS LIKE EVERYBODY HERE IS SAYING!!!!

Legal immigrants who want to become Americans (speak the language, honor the flag, and American customs) are more than welcomed. No one is against anyone wanting a better life, but Americans are tired of people dumping on us and demanding that we like it.

No.....but it is raising concernes since citizens are being denied jobs for cheaper labor done by even legal immigrants through the HB1 visas. If we really needed them....fine....and they should be paid exactly the same as our citizens. But they aren't. Sometimes for 12000 less a year. Great bonus for the company.....brings more people here.....but we don't need more people and we certainly don't need more people comming here to do our jobs for less. It is causing concern for those of us who live here and see our jobs sent overseas, legal immigrants being brought in to take our jobs for less and then the flood of illegal workers as well. Can anyone tell me what they think the American citizen is supposed to do to survive? We have a right to survive as well. Many don't come here wanting freedom or to be American.....they just want the money. While we're fighting to find any employment to survive on.

It's not being mad at them either (immigrants)....they are going by the book....we're just wondering what our government is doing to us. When the rug gets pulled out....they can go home......this is our home.

If someone is here legally (with all that means and entails) then they are welcome by all means. My mother is an immigrant, naturalized in 1956.

And consider this: in 2000 the U.S. population was about 216 million people. Trying to find one phrase or idea that describes all of us is a pointless exercise.
