I met my boyfriend (of 15 months) online and we are both attractive people. People seem to be always shocked that "normal people" use online dating as a resource. Why is that?

It's because there are so many frauds out there. I can't tell you how many times I or my friends have met and conversed with people online and even exchanged pictures. But when you go to meet them in person their attitude is "I thought once you met me it wouldn't matter that I'm nothing like the person in the picture." The problem is not their looks per se, it's just the fact that they lied to you to get you to meet IRL. Trust is the key to any relationship...

Congrats to you and your BF, good things happen to good people!

because people think if you were a normal person you wouldn't need to go on the internet looking for a relationship. It kinda seems a bit desperate and only people who cannot get girl/boyfriends e.g ugly overweight, bald people go on there to try and find ANYONE who would go out with them.

I've never heard this before. I'm in my 30's and everybody I know has dated someone they met online, and these are some attractive, wealthy people. My fiance and I met online and we're pretty attractive people. Granted, there are some trolls out there, but those same trolls are also meeting people in bars or in coffeehouses.

Because attractive people typically meet others by being out in the world as opposed to hiding behind a computer. I think unattractive people use the net as a dating tool because they believe that others will over look their physical shortcomings if they present a sparkling personality beforehand.

I don't think that. I have used online dating. I've met some really nice guys. The problem with online dating is it is hard to meet someone in your area...or at least in MY area of the country.

just because you're attractive doesnt make you normal.. there are a great number of undianosed masses of people out there who are crazy as lunatics.

saying that, i dont think there is anything wrong with dating sites.. the only issue i'd have with them is that people can lie about themselves a lot easier....

any relationship we enter into is taking a gamble, whether it be a marriage, or some other committment, or even a new friendship.

good luck

i met my girl online too and i think it is because there are alot of weird people on dating sites i met some people from there and without a word of a lie, i met girls who: smelled like they did not bath and one that was missing teeth. i think its because those kinda people are on there agressively and you kinda get them as a "front" of online dating. but there are normal people you just have to get passed the "front" :)

Because on-line dating is considered a more desperate avenue to meet someone, and those people you describe are often that.

That does not mean the I think on-line daters are desperate, but I do believe that is the general thinking.

well to be perfectly honest... people with no lives usually use an on-line dating source... who are these people well in our minds we think of the fat balding gross people... i wont argue that many normal people use on-line dating sources but its a stereotype that we cant get over. kinda like all geeks wear glasses... its nothing more than ignorance at its truest form.
