My cat his this nasty habbit that came out of the blue, she pees on the floor & not in the litter box. My parents are thinking of getting rid of her but thats out of the question because shes been here so long. Is there a way to stop this habbit? (sorry for the strange question)

As long as we've had her she's always pooped outside the litterbox. She stands on the oposite edge. She does use the box now & then to pee, but latly shes been doing that on only one tile on the floor. She doesn't meow when she goes & she doesn't seem to be in any pain. I was thinking it may be mental thing? Shes the only cat we have. But ever since we got this particular dog, a malumute (who acts like a real jerk), maybe his presence made it worse? I could try the vet (although they charge a fortune >_<).

A cat that's afraid to use the litter box will go next to it. A dog is certainly enough of a threat to make a quiet box use turn survival oriented--the cat gets kudos for at least going BY the box, if not in it. Can you move the box to a quiet area especialy where the dog can't go? This could solve the whole problem.

What has changed in the cat's environment? Have you switched litter brands or food recently? Added a cat to the house? Is there another cat coming around?

Yes, clean the litter and maybe even add another box. Still, it might be medical, as listed above by others, but it could also be emotional. Get to the vet and eliminate the medical aspect. The vet should also be able to discuss the cat's possible emotional cause of this, if the vet is any good.

This can be a very difficult problem to deal with, especially if it's not just the floor. It can get way worse. I know of cats peeing on the stove, which drips down into the oven beneath. Peeing on beds, pillows, blankets; electronic equipment; this could escalate into a completely intolerable situation where your health is actually at stake, both physical and mental.

Attack this problem with cleaning the litter and getting to the vet ASAP because if it gets to the point where major damage is being done, I don't see how the cat can stay. For the good of the cat, get right on this.

Getting Rid Of? What a terrible phrase.

PLEASE take your cat to the vet-- it may have blockage (can be fatal in a male cat) and/or a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) -- very painful.

Not a strange question at all,. One of my cats started peeing BLOOD on the floor-- I took her to the vet at midnight and she ended up being on antibiotics for a month, her UTI was so bad.

Keep the litterbox clean. If youhave more than one cat, you definitely need more than 1 litterbox. Even if you have just ONE cat, two litterboxes would be a great idea too.

The texture of the litter can sometimes make a cat pee/poop outside the box - you might want to consider that -- but consider ONE thing at a time-- and what you need to do right now is -- Take The Cat To The Vet.

Best of luck-- cats are like babies -- sometimes babies have accidents too. But its' rare that anyone would want to Get Rid Of a baby for that. Your cat is a member of your family too!

my cat had the same problem. he drove everyone up the wall. it was because the cat food did not go with his body. take her to the vet to check if she has crystals in her urine. that is what bothers them and makes them go in the litterbox as well as outside of it. they can't control it. but the vet will perscribe medicine and special cat food that will help your cat out. she would have to eat that cat food for the rest of her life though. tell your parents not to get rid of her.

she is spraying..get her fixed and it will go away...most people think males are the only one that mark their territory so they look for female animals but they are wrong..our females are just as likely to stop and pee when going for a walk to mark it....simple procedure at the vets will take care of it.....if she is old however my cat became slightly blind and couldn't find the litter box in time.....we never moved it..she just had difficulty getting there and locating it...

Is her box cleaned daily? If not then she may not want to use a dirty box, if yes- then call the vet, your cat may be sick.
