Be around a bunch of Italians that don't and won't speak your native language---then you are forced to learn it the way little kids do....one phrase at a time...

the most efficient is cassettes,you learn more when you sleep,therefore, slap a cassette into a portable player, put headphones on ,and, sleep on,your subconcious will do the rest.
