okay again my future mother in law has not worked in 24 years she 49 and she wanted to watch a child and get apid by the goverment would that be considered working inorder for her to retire and get social security? beacuse shes still got 15years before she hits retirement age?

We're talking about 40 quarters of paying FICA taxes. I'm sure watching a child is hard work (depending on the kid), but was she paid an income for doing that, and did she declare that income and pay FICA taxes for 40 quarters? If she was doing it without getting paid, then no.

What they said above simply means if she is earning money for providing day care and she is paying taxes on it, she will be able to draw from Social Security. The 40 quarters means that she has to have paid in taxes during at least 40 quarters to receive full benefits (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, etc).

If you are unsure, she should request a statement from the SSA that will spell out the anticipated amount she can collect when she reaches the appropriate age (which is not the same for everybody-it is based on when you were born). I have put in the link below that explains the SSA statement and how to request one if you have not received one.

As long as she's paying INTO social security, then yes.
