The vinyl goes over the cotton underwear to allow your child to feel wetness while protecting the outer clothing. It is a great idea. Another great idea that worked for my kids is The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com This stool makes every toilet kid- sized. It really helped my children to have a SAFE and sturdy way for them to get to the toilet on their own. My kids had such an easy time with potty training because of this stool. I like that this stool cuts potty training in half by eliminating the potty chair. This stool made all the difference for my kids. I hope this helps you.

I potty trained all mine in 1 weekend. I let them run around bare on bottom and gave them tons to drink. I kept them off carpet and watched them like a hawk. As soon as they started to go - ran them to the bathroom. If they did anything in the toilet - they got a treat and I made a big deal out of it!
Kept doing this. After 3-4 times, they were saying they needed to go (they were all 2 yrs old). By day 3, we only wore diapers to bed and we were DONE! If they had accidents later, I made it unpleasant - they had to help clean up. They took barely warm showers (I told them I couldn't afford more hot water - too much $$$. They only have 1 warm bath/shower a day...), put wet clothes in the washer - it got to be not fun. They quit having accidents.
Try it and see!
My grandmother did this with 6 kids. It works!!! It's a rough 2-3 days, but it's the only way.

there is not really a certain way to potty train. my son now 3, was 2 when potty trained. i went through pull ups like diapers, i let him run around naked and he peed on the floor. finally my mom bought underwear, and he started using the potty that day on his own. kids have minds of their own

Fred Meyer has Gerber cloth training pants cheap. Just put the plastic pants over them. I am starting this with my 3 year old son in the hopes that he will hate the wet feeling.
