People get complacent when they get too comfortable, also some people have disorders that make them store water and fat. The thing is this, it's very easy in our current society to let everything go, to eat like crap and sit in front of the TV all day.

It really depends on the person. I understand what you mean, I get a little antsy when I reach up to 128. I guess it depends on how people look at themselves. Sometimes people get used to being a certain weight and they continue doing all the things they should not until everything is out of control. After awhile, they may just give up or they do not have the support they need to get better. We all do things based on motivation and for some of us, our motivation is fear of getting a certain size while others have a fear of asking for help or accepting help.

From a former obese person, you just don't realize how big you are. you get used to seeing yourself like that everyday and while you know you are heavy, you don't realize how big you are until you lose weight.
also, as mentioned, often times it is circumstantial. I know, for example, a guy who was well over 300 pounds and he was gay - he was literally trying to cover himself up. Once he finally accepted who he really was/is, he has lost over a 100 pounds and is much happier now.
Everyone has their own issues - for overweight people (and those with eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia), they just show outwardly - where some people hold them in and they are not expressed through physical appearance.

There it is once again, looking for an easy answer when there may not be one. Many people end up obese from health problems. Others may eat for comfort, since eating is the only comfort they get in their life.
Being judgmental about fat people is truly the only bigotry that is still acceptable .

I think that those who are severely overweight have either one of two problems;
1. A disorder or malfunction somewhere, which unfortunately, despite the indiviudals efforts, cannot lose weight.
2. They are upset about something and are going through a depression of some kind.

Alot of times its a medical problem. With that being said once people reach a certain weight they get depressed and then they are so heavy they cant move. And that causes them to gain more weight. They need someone to motivate them and get them moving again so they can be a little healthier.

Watch some of the shows or programs on T.V. for a better understanding of why the condition exists. They have a hugh problem brainwise that your or I don't have. Their appetite never shuts off and they are constantly hungry. No fun.

These people don't WANT to look like that. They just don't know how to stop it. They do not understand how to change it on their own and they need help. I understand your point, but they don't think the same as we do. The same could be said about people with addiction to alcohol or drugs. They know they should stop but they can't.

sometimes, it's medical...sometimes, it's circumstantial.
that person didn't suddenly become that big...it took time, and i think much of the time, people of such size don't realize they are as big as they are.
they likely aren't as focussed on appearance, which makes their size less consequential.
often, if you watch shows about people losing weight, they haven't sat foot on a scale in a long time or they don't realize just how big they are - you see their reaction and it's like a lightbulb goes off.
that's why.

I am sure they are freaking out too. I seriously doubt they spend even 1 hour of thier day happy with themselves. Depression leads to the inability to do anything sometimes. I am sure it seems insurmountable to them and at 400lbs, it damn near is...
