Risperdal consta is an atypical anti-psychotic medication, which is given by injection to those patients who either have difficulty taking or refuse to take the oral medication. It is to help control hallucinations, delusions and difficulty controlling or responding to emotions. If your agitation and aggression were the result of hallucinations or aggravated by delusions I strongly advise staying on the medication unless doctors have deemed it appropriate to discontinue it.Inasmuch as you describe yourself as having been agitated and aggressive I strongly suspect you are one who refused or "dumped" the pill form of the drug when first administered and caution against discontinuing it against medical advice.

Risperdal is prescribed for your own continued good mental health and welfare.

Good luck, good mental health, peace and love!

You are attempting to do something that should be done under the supervision of your doctor. This drug has a history of some serious side effects and you must be sure that you no longer require the drug to overcome your simptoms. My own experiance with this drug as a patient was not a good one so I wish you luck and counsel you to involve your family and friends so that they are aware of your moods and intentions. They are your best resorce to help you with your choice to come off the drug and be able to handle the changes that will happen as the drug leaves your system.

Well my husband came off Ripserdal after only taking it for less than 6 months and it was hell. I am not sure what it would be like for you, but just make sure you do it slowly and don't go cold turkey like one dumb doctor told my husband. he barely made it thru and wishes to never have to go thru that ever again.

It was horrid.

Wanting to vommit all the time, no appetite, tons of anxiety and panic attacks, depression that landed him in bed for over 2 weeks before he would get help, shaking and sweating, felt like he had the flu. Not fun.

I pray that your experience goes smoothly. Just do it slowly and according to the doctor.

it all depends how often you have it, how long you have been on it, how well it has worked, how badly you were effected by these symptoms and also how slowly you come off it. Please speak to your consultant before making the decision as once you relapse it could take a long time to recover, as I`m sure you know. Good luck.
