whenever I organize them, they like to reset themselves to another position later and I have to re-organize it over and over, and I also dont like locking them as they make a wallpaper look bad when they add the shading behind the names of them.
also how do you hide the icons, it would be nice to hide the Recycling Bin as I use a different program to delete stuff.

To keep the icons from rearranging you need to right click a blank spot on your desktop, go to "Arrange Icons by...", then uncheck "Auto Arrange."

To keep them from locking into a certain position you right click desktop, go to "Arrange Icons By...", the uncheck "Align to Grid."

To hide the recycle bin you would need to download a utility to remove or edit the registry which I do not recommend. Hope this helps. These answers are based on Windows XP OS.

Assuming Windows XP.... to get rid of Recycle Bin icon

Right Click on the Desktop, go into Properties
Select the Desktop tab
Click on "Customize Desktop"
There is an option there to turn off the Recycle Bin and other specially icons (My Docs, Net Places, IE)

uncheck auto arrange and align to grid so the icons stay where they are.
if u don't need any icons on ur desktop, simply delete them-- ur only deleting the shortcuts, bot the program itself.. or better yet, run desktop cleanup.
