And, more specifically, 'Civil Parterships'
and
is it nature or nurture?

It's both.

People are born gay, but it takes the right kind of loving environment to let them be honest enough to admit it to themselves as they become aware of how some sectors of society -- bigots and fundamentalists -- consider them monsters.

If they never get the "nurture" then they become self-hating repressed people who go around calling homosexuality a sin and an "abomination."

In reality, God makes some people gay just like He makes some people not gay.

Civil Partnership: The rights for one, should be the rights of all. All Americans should be allowed to marry who they want. Who not what.

Nature/Nuture: The idea which makes the most sense is that we all have the propensity to be a homosexual, some of us more then others. And that events then play a role in which side we choose. Events are rarely extreme enough for us to go against the culturally accepted norm. But in some cases it pushes the person across that line, whether it be a lack of a male figure or an abusive father to a daughter. Then of course there are those that are so far down the spectrum that they are simply "born gay".

Ancient Greek and Latin had no word for homosexuality. These were later added into the New Testament. Christians who knew this might check their opinion on the topic seeing as Greek is what the New Testament was originally written in. The Ancient world was much more accepting and so there were many bi-sexuals running around. Everyone justs needs to mind their business.

The Christian perspective: people are not born gay, something happens to make them so. God loves you whether you are gay or not, but if you choose to be a Christian, you are committing yourself to follow the right path, to turn away from all sins, one of which is homosexual activity. I don't how you are supposed to achieve that, but it's no different than a heterasexual giving up pre marital sex. God made us male and female because that's the way it works best. Christians don't have the right to judge anyone for the way they live, only to lovingly help believers overcome any sins in their lives

Nature - look at the Bono Chimps, and they practice homosexuality. Homosexuality has been around for longer than religion has, one invented by nature, the other invented by humans. Of which we know that religion was invented by humans, therefore homosexuality was invented by nature.
It is amazing that being straight, nobody even questions my sexual orientation, but yet I never wish to have children. Obviously that would be against religion because sex is for procreation. Hence I must be not natural, according to them.

Nature or nurture?

Both I say.

Some are born be gay

Some are born bi and choose to be gay

Some are just confused

Some are damaged psychologically as a result of abuse

There is no one answer that can describe all homosexuals. To believe so is just ignorant.

No one has the right to tell anyone else what is appropriate to do with their own body, including what gender of person one chooses to have sex with.

Religious influence over government has made it a ridiculous struggle for homosexuals to get married with their partners. Politicians eager for the money and votes of the conservatives aren't willing to rock the boat, and government plods on with this despite the fact that a couple might love each other dearly and want to enjoy similar benefits as married heterosexual couples do in the U.S. at least.

"Pursuit of happiness" is in the Constitution, if you obtain happiness by regular or buttseks it shouldn't matter. If it were up to me I'd say hell yeah, allow it, you only live once, etc. If God doesn't like it I'm sure we would've seen lots of couples turned to salt in their beds by now?

Seriously, church and state need to stay out of relationship issues. Taxation issues, fine, but no one has the right to tell consenting adults what gender of partner they can choose to screw.

EDIT: To those who keep citing scripture about homosexuality being an abomination, wasn't it more specifically that it's an abomination for a man victorious in battle to have sex with the corpse of his fallen enemy, on the battlefield? The context seems a bit different here wouldn't you say?

Also, many animals perform homosexual acts and other acts which some religions shun, such as orangutan masturbation, yet as far as I'm aware God has not struck these animals down. This seems inconsistent with religious doctrine.

it is found in other species cats dogs and other animals but i have no problem with homosexuality or civil partnerships as if two people love eachother why should they be denied what others can have.
I care nothing about homosexuality, bisexuality, or heterosexuality i care about the truth and if someones truth is they like the same sex or both i have no problem with that.

I'm Catholic and I'm all for it, more love in the world sounds good to me and civil partnerships go for it I say two people want to commit to each other for life good for them.

As for nature or nurture of course its nature I don't know how anyone can say it's otherwise, you can't help how you're born whether you've got blond hair brown hair blue eyes brown eyes tall or short, no one can help how they are or how they feel leave them alone and let them get on with like they let us straight people get on with.

And one more thing gay people should be able kiss and hug and hold hands in the street just like we do and despite how I've worded my statement its time to end the them and us thing everyone happy and everyone in love cool.

In Islam homosexuality is a sin and can be a death sentence in certain Muslim countries that practice Shariah Law.

I don't have an opinion on homosexuality either way. What difference does it make what sexual orientation someone is. Live your own life the way you want but don't spout bigoted nonsense just because you don't like it.

Does it really matter if its nature or nurture? Either way as long as they are happy. I think civil partnerships is a good idea, why should straight couples be able to commit themselves to each other with their family and friends all around them and not a gay couple?

Life is far to short!
